Gardai directed to go on career breaks by Shatter. Will the criminals also go on career breaks ?

1000 Gardai, are to go on career breaks, so as to provide more money for the Anglo Banglo Bondholders.

Career breaks 'aimed at reducing Garda numbers by 1,000' | BreakingNews.ie

How will Shatter get the criminals in Ireland's thriving crime economy to go on a career break as well ?

Does Scutter even want to do anything about the escalating crime problem in Ireland ?

Is Ireland's criminal justice system being too supportive of those working in the booming crime sector ?

Is this latest initiative, a step too far in stimulating and liberating crime in Ireland ?

In my analysis Shatter is being extremely lazy in relation to the crime problem in this country. In fact, he does not care one bit about it.

Yet another pig in a poke.
These Gardaí will presumably hold off on recruitment of new Gardaí. It would be better to retire the older guys which would allow for a slow and steady recruitment of new blood.

Could they not come back at 80% of standard pay, like the nurses?

Why does Shatter not go on a career break? He certainly has the money for one and it is high season in the Holy Land soon.

Many Gardai could not afford a "career break", what with trying to meet their families' expectations. The Gardai do need reform. The Bible tells us you cannot serve two masters and those with divided loyalties are not the ones to institute such reforms. Shatter should honestly declare where his loyalties really lie.

The criminals have shown innovative thinking around flexible work practices and have rooted out out-dated agreements which are no longer fit for purpose, in rostering and overtime

They have taken severe cuts and have nothing left to give

These guys are really amazing. When in opposition they lambasted the then Government for increasing the number of Gardai at too slow a rate, and then when they become the Government themselves, they reduce the numbers.

It's like a merry go round for a group of cossetted pigs who never have to get off, they merely swap places.

The Minister for closing Garda Stations seems to be soft on crime, and hard on irony.

fine gael always like to consider themselves the party of law and order, we have far too many gardai in ireland, the numbers can be cut to 10,000, gardai will need to work longer hours without overtime.

Another article concerning this.

Cuts force gardai to look at shedding 1,000 officers - National News - Independent.ie

Gardai....Shatter thinks that some of you may wish to make a Noonanesque "lifestyle choice".
We need the Gardai to take a gap year--backpacking around Australia, or hitch-hiking through Canada. It's nothing to do with our economic situation. Traditionally guards have always had itchy feet and enjoy trekking across South East Asia or sleeping out in the Mojave desert... ..

so garda reps are no doubt going mad at shatters proposals to reduce the number of gardai by 1,000 this year, well if they want to maintain existing numbers they should accept further pay cuts as well as abolishing most allowances.

However daft you think this may be, you can make your point without being Anti semetic.
And for the record I am no fan of Alan shatters, I think he is way to lefty liberal to be an effective minister for justice.

This sounds like a scheme to force useless/lazy guards out of the job - far easier than firing them (cf. doddery teachers forced into "early retirement")

If we cannot afford to pay the Gardai should they not be made redundant. Other countries like the UK don't have jobs for life in their public service so why should we.

Irrespective of the repayment of bonds & their interest we are running a massive current spending deficits - the vast majority of the spendig increases in the last decade were build on phantom buildimng related taxes which are never returning.

If you hate Jews so much why do you worship a Jewish God, worship a Jewish Messiah, following the teachings of Jewish prophets etc?
