Just when I thought we were going down the tubes

“Exports are growing. New order books are expanding and business confidence has improved markedly since last year. Tax revenues are stabilising, public expenditure is under control and our budget deficit will shrink next year,” he said
This is becoming farcical at this stage. First we have that fool O'Keefe promising thousands of jobs and now this. The immediate return of the Celtic Tiger. These guys have lost the plot entirely!

An if you did not laugh at that one.

Digicel chairman Denis O’Brien told the conference the economy was at a critical turning point where confidence could make a real difference.

He said Ireland was “under the microscope” of the international financial community. Irish news providers needed to be increasingly sensitive as to how they presented the news of the day. In practice, that meant reporting both good and bad news

Minister for Finance said:
“That anger has been well articulated by commentators who genuinely and rightly believe they have a role in giving voice to the frustrations of the citizens. But those of us in positions of leadership have a duty to give people hope...”
F--king hell. It's the second coming of Harvey Milk.

With a bit of comical Ali thrown in.

This is becoming more than ridiculous - it is seriously worrying.

According to RTE this morning, Lenihan has been in contact wit Irish journalists wanting them to 'talk up' the economy, not tell the truth.

What is it with this government? Do they not understand they are responsible to the electorate? That they should be telling us the truth, not censoring it?

For too long the third estate ignored the reality of what was happening. They were complicit in the defrauding of Ireland. Lenihan and O'Brien want them to continue, it seems.

We cannot ignore the fact that we are in a lot of trouble i.e up the creek without a paddle, but when the occasion bit of good news emerges we should be highlighting it and not listensing to the eternal whingeing of some

Works well for Kim Jong Il. No Anglo bail out there.

Dear Ian,

I’m sure you saw the FT today. It’s ironic it came out just before our big day. AMT BBDN expected, as you know, to make a killing on behalf of our client in that territory on the day as we have done consistently since we took over the brand.

yeah im not surprised

theres been a marked increase in talking up the economy on stations like newstalk in the last week or so and eamon dunphy and co were openly commentating on a dictate from headoffice to do the same a few months back.

do these idiots ACTUALLY believe they have this influence?

i know they can saturate the airwaves with it but it doesnt mean the publics stupid enough to believe it. i mean if this crap worked we never wouldve entered recession in the first place when you consider the wall to wall "green jersey" "feck off and commit suicide" "talking down the economy" nonsence of the last three years.

Delusional gits. They cant bring themselves to believe that they bankrupted the state the minute they signed the Anglo guarantee.

In other news, Minister Lenihan has rounded on commentators who have suggested black is black.

"Black is most definitely white" said the Minister. "Internal studies by my department confirm this".

Minister Lenihan warned "All the media speculation that black is black is doing a lot of damage"

While they were doing their press conference a man threw himself from an adjacent 6 story building. On arriving at the scene Lenihan was heard to remark, " well at least he is not falling anymore "

I think serious questions now have to be asked of Lenihans ability to cope with the situation we find ourselves in. The man is deluded and not really coping well with what must be a hard time for him and his family dealing with cancer. Someone needs to step in here and demand an election straight away. This is getting silly.

They are demanding and have been for the last 2 years. The FFers and Greens won't as they face annihilation. Lenihan has become a joke recently which is a pity as he seemed to be a safe pair of hand s when he took over.

I could not believe that headline in the Irish Times this morning! Not content with having screwed up the country they are now on a concerted lying campaign to try to convince us that black is white.Do they really take us for complete fools ? If the Press are colluding with this deception we should boycott newspapers.Figures speak for themselves and all the "talking up" will not change the fact that the country is in a major depression and ,because of this governments mishandling of the economy ,will be in massive debt for generations to come .I have no interest in reading any advice from Mr.Mobile O Brien.Does he pay any taxes to this country or did he just scarper to sunnier climes when he got what he wanted from us?

This is serious, either the figures that were reported last week were wrong or what Mr Lenihan tells is wrong, What the ministers told us in Galway was an insult to our intelligence , Mr Lenihans statement is worse, he tell us that our GNP has moved from a very steep decline to a position of stabilisation,, "This is a remarkable turnaround" That is not a turnaround, Mr Lenihans judgment must be questioned this and the bank guarantee telling us that it would start up lending.
Journalists will have to start asking more questions of the Minister of Finance.
The TDs who are keeping this government in power are doing a grave disservice to to the country, honesty should not be a big requirement from a government, we are not getting it.
