Brian Lenihan is touring Europe with the aim of restoring our fiscal reputation - will it work ?

Apparently the sell line is that isn't amazing that we've avoided riots...

Irish Times Friday, April 24, 2009: Lenihan must convince the markets

Brian Lenihan’s tour of European financial capitals next month is vitally important, writes ARTHUR BEESLEY

BRIAN LENIHAN’S latest attempt to pacify the public finances found a measure of praise yesterday from the most unlikely of sources, the editorial column of the Daily Telegraph.

Irish Times Monday, April 27, 2009: Europe 'amazed' at steps taken in budget - Lenihan

MINISTER FOR Finance Brian Lenihan has said the recent budgetary steps taken in imposing the pensions levy and raising taxes had impressed and “amazed” other European countries.

Speaking at the Irish League of Credit Unions conference in Killarney on Saturday, Mr Lenihan said other European governments would not have been able to impose the kind of pain the Government had.

Mr Lenihan said there would be “riots” in France, were the pension levy on public servants to be introduced in that country.

But for how much longer Brian? You need the Croppies to lie down for years - not months.

Amazing what can be achieved when your populace is heavily fluoridated.

We like to think we're a rebellious and healthily disrespectful people. We're not. We're one of the most docile, easily conned, pliable people in the entire world. We'll buy any old sh1te from any old conman, so long as we are either being patronised like children or else we think there's a short-term buck in it for us. We are mostly the heirs of those who hid under their beds or openly collaborated with the British, not the tiny minority who actually fought them. The self-congratulation is decades past its sell-by date.

That's why there are no riots.

We're the heirs of people who held on and dug in when it was more important to protect your family than get your head taken off by a bunch of murderous inbreeds who placed more value on their horse than on human life, just like every people that has ever suffered under those conditions for any length of time. And lest we forget, there is no Union Jack flying over most of the country right now, and the people that made that happen are our heritage.

That's why there are no riots.
There are no riots because there would be no point. Would you riot in the name of FG, no harm to them? You've been living in blighty too long. :p

How true! Bertie has the population all proud with his man of the people balloney. Some even cried during the Dobson interview! Now we have Lenihan telling us that Europe is AMAZED with his handling of our financial fiascos! The sad thing is that the punters will believe that tommyrot.

Meanwhile there is a bus strike. That will pi$s off the commuters but it's about as strong as a cowardly electorate will get.

Comments about 1916 are irrelevant as those making them are not really versed in the real history of the time. We have the official deValera version. Go figure that one lads.

I'm a bit confused here, which flag do you see flying over government buildings in this country? Because it doesn't look like the uj at all to me. It looks to me like the union jacks were pulled down and thrown in the trash a long time ago. No offence meant to the many UK posters on this site, but there seems to be a bit of a reality disconnect going on lately.

Comments about 1916 are not about the flag! You are bringing the flag into the discussion. Apart from said banner what do you know about that era?

It should be interesting to see if any voters decide that FF canvassers and local politicians can "share the pain" in the next few months.

What about the riot on O'Connell street a few years ago? The vast majority of people castigated the rioters left, right and centre for tearing up O'Connell street in protest at a planned march. Now people are being castigated for not rioting. Sometimes you just can't win. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Well it could get very interesting if the Dissidents begin to see the FF regime as a threat to Ireland and start targeting them. But then this is Ireland and the Gombeen regime is par for the course while Irish people starve again.

Are you referring to the Love Ulster protest? The riots there were orchestrated by scumbags with mobile phones. No in the same context as what is being discussed here.

Dissidents will never target FF, despite everything theres still some good republicans in the party at grassroots level anyway. I would like to see the Continuity army council taking over Leinster House though, they are the real government after all. :D
