Leo has been battered and bruised by the events of the last week.
He has stood by a lame duck Tanaiste when it was obvious to everyone outside of the FG PP that she would have to resign.
He looked as if he wanted to put FG ahead of the national interest at such a critical time.
Leo must be thinking that the current Dail is all but finished and looks like limping on into 2018 until FF or the Indo Alliance decide to kill it off once and for all when the time is right.

Is Leo on borrowed time? Has he any hope of winning the next election after sending out his dupties to defend the indefensible?
One of the shortest serving Taoiseach ever?

You're making the mistake of assuming that FF want a general election.
They don't.

Taoiseach in Dáil accepts Tanaiste’s resignation then goes on to defend her handling of issues which caused her resignation, repeating some of his old inaccurate defences.

If he can't deal with his own party Martin may not even get to the next election to have that chance. Just how much does the Offaly TD imagine he should be leader? Varadkar as leader will be fine as most of the FG ire will be towards FF and there's no sense to them to get into a leadership challenge.

If FG are fine with Varadkar as a leader, then they deserve everything they get. Are they really that stupid and arrogant? Perhaps. They will start to fall apart. Great stuff.

Leo is not the first Taoiseach to stubbornly refuse to fire a minister under pressure. Remember Bertie held out for years regarding his own office. Enda held out for years over Callinan (as AGS Commissioner) and Shatter.

None of them were dumb enough to do it in a minority government that was leaking like a sieve to the opposition. Varadkar is a delusional moron. He needs to be stopped.

Yawn. I suppose the socialists will do the stopping. All five of them. Delusions indeed....

If nothing else it's entertaining to watch him put Mary Lou back in her box.
A few witty jibes here and there won't really make up for the clusterphuck he's just overseen.

What I've learned in the past 72 hours is that FG stands for the people who get up early in the morning as long as they dedicate themselves to a career of self-serving incompetence and corruption...I may have missed a few subtleties, but it's a good summary.

Awful judgement and awful display of recklessness.

Yeah, but neither do FG and they have a leader with an itchy trigger finger and very poor judgement, so they may regret not listening to their grass roots....Leo's career may not end in a GE.....Kenny's didn't and to be honest he never performed as poorly as Varadkar just has.

No. He'll be Taoiseach after the next election. People across the board like the guy because he's pretty refreshing, and is easy on the eye.
I'm amazed that people actually believe that he didn't calculate that Fitzgerald would do the proper thing and resign. She backed him for leadership and he supported her in the knowledge that she would go of her own accord.
Varadkar is easy to read.

People on here don't want to see that. The opposition are pretty desperate right now. He got the resignation he wanted, he appeased Ff to keep them on side another while(made MM feel real important), and stood by his tanaiste (showing his party how loyal he is).

The same people who are criticising him now would have been criticising him for being weak, giving in to FF etc if he sacked Fitz at the first sign of trouble.
