Damn!

Now I bid you farewell, I don't know when I'll be back
They're moving us tomorrow to that tower down the track
But you'll be hearing from me baby, long after I'm gone
I'll be speaking to you sweetly from a window
In the Tower of Song.

Is Dylan ok?
Ha, bad I know, but that's almost always my first thought when one of the greats dies.. "That's awful.. but phew.. Dylan is still knocking around." I am saving all my celebrity grief for that day, apparently..

RIP Mr. Cohen.

Dylan is like the Duracell bunny of musicians.

"I never had the sense that there was an end," he said in 1992. "That there was a retirement or that there was a jackpot."

I just love Cohen's 'Suzanne' inspired by his muse Suzanne Verdal (not his 'wife' Suzanne Elrod).

You're My Man Leonard!

Saw him in Lissadel....Something old-fashioned, wise and gentle in his irony and courtesy ...

Heard his melancholy chant from many a bedsit in my youth...

My favourite Cohen song, Alexandra Leaving --(from the CP Cavafy poem The God Abandons Antony)

I will always regret not making the effort to see him live. Even on the last tour, he seemed to really try and connect with his audiences in each country.

A minor example of the man's artistry: he takes a great Greek poem about a Roman abandoned by fate in Alexandria:

C.P. Cavafy - Poems - The Canon

and gives us this:

Jeekers, didn't see you there GG20! Cavafy's poem by itself moves me so much when I think of Dublin.

I have read that the Classical Athenians had an anti-Freudian take on dreams and life - the sexual was interpreted as political, an omen for the polis. Cohen reverses this, on the surface at least.

I love CP Cavafy.

Cohen totally re-focuses the poem.

But it is a beautiful tribute....

( Nice on P.ie to find someone shares one's tastes :))

"Now I've heard there was a secret chord, that David played and it pleased the Lord, but you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift, the baffled King composing Hallelujah!"

What a wonderful artist!!

RIP
