A quick crunching of the numbers of the 'Equality for Everyone' Party when choosing their latest leader, produces some rather interesting and perhaps questionable results.

Firstly, an electorate of 11,119 people voted in this exercise in democracy. Of those 11,119 people, 3,946 voted for 'Courageous Lion of Leo Street'.

7,173 voted for 'Safe Hands Simon' of Work Horse Street, almost 2 to 1 in his favour.

But the insider Lion beats the galloping Horse?

'Equality', where are you, in FG?

This is like the US election all over again.

FG have a system...it was decided upon years ago. The candidates knew what they were signing up to when they declared.
Leo won.

Get over it

There'll be no severity.

He'll go middle ground at best, most likely left of it like everyone else in this country.
He raised the dole last Autumn for feks sakes and the country still borrowing money

You mean Democracy FG style, FG's Ireland is Different, lump it or leave it.
They're their own party, they can elect their leader any way they want. As do every other party.
What did you want...a general election for the FG leader!!!

The nuts are out tonight

A bad day for Ireland, a bad day for democracy, a bad day for the good old fashioned values on which we used to rely

To be fair, FG doesnt want to like UK Labour where the leader has no support in his parliamentary party. Im ambivalent about Leo myself.

This is not the glorious egalitarian Fine Gael of my youth. A black day for the party.

Daft enough rules though. It's like a parody of a TV gameshow. "And now we move on the the final, high scoring round, rendering the previous two rounds completely pointless."

Well, they could have done it like the Labour party in the UK. Where any eejit could waltz in off the street and sign up for a fiver- let the fringe elements take over the party.

In fairness, they could have had a, 'One person, one vote', system without allowing randomers to buy in for a fiver with two weeks notice.

18.8% of FG Party Members voted for Leo Varadkar.
Noone can know the intentions of abstainers and death people so its fairer to count the percentage of those who voted and assume its representative just as with elections and referendums.

THEY told us that everyone in the world loves the Irish, in reality at best no one else gives a do-doo about us , even when we have a gay mixed race leader...nobody seems to care,
