Perhaps it's sour grapes on my part, but this current row about Elysee expenses has caught my attention.
We'll rise above the obvious potshots, but a twenty-four hour, seven days a week hairdresser is there on call for the French president.

CoiffeurGate: The high cost of Hollande's haircut - BBC News

And this hairdresser gets nearly €10,000 a month for his jetting-about-the-globe gig.
Wow.

I do not know who I envy more, Francois or the hairdresser?

Disgraceful way for a socialist to behave.

€120,000 PA for a ************************************g haircut?

Let them eat cake indeed.

Viva la revolution
For all you know that poor lad might be trawling about airbnb non-stop, scouring for a deal on where he's going to stay on that next stop! :-(

On my hanging about the pubs of Tralee with men old enough to be my Father.
Age is just a number.

Prior to their eventual love in didn't Gormless dub Bertie The queen of Drumcondra, due to his make up bill, was it €60K per year?
Absolutely fooking absurd!

Bertie Ahern – who spent just under €250,000 on make-up over his 11-year term as head of government. Ahern spent an average of €441 per week on make-up during his tenure, with costs peaking at €27,721.53 in 2004. Jeez but we know how to pick the thorny one's from the rosebush of the politico class.

I have absolutely no idea how he clocked that up.
At least were it down this way we could wonder was he filling in potholes with it?

It's how the other half lives--

Nancy Reagan--a very tense First Lady referred to by her staff as "The Hairdo With Anxiety"---had at least two hairdressers flown around the world with her and Ronnie, and the coiffeurs stayed in the best suites in the best hotels, unlike, say, the speechwriters and astrologers who had to slum it in some motel...

Jackie Kennedy often had JFK send Air Force One to California to pick up her hairdresser, and the First Crimper always flew first class if they went commercial...

On the other hand, if a public figure has a hair out of place, a mismatched sock, or a sagging hem, there will be photos and jeering comments--"what a wally. Disgracing us again on the world stage" etc---all over social media and indeed in the mainstream media.

It's a very visual age. We are very intolerant about others' appearence--especially that of politicians---and we judge people on how they look.

I pay my guy double that...

Sure, he needs a diamond tipped angle grinder to trim one of my locks...and a trim takes a dozen or so...

Damn my manly mane, that simply can't be tamed!

It's just the way the French roll.

Weren't Carla and Nicolas Sarkozy known as the 'Bling-Blings' while they were at the Elysee Palace, because of their extravagance?

I always thought that if the french royals returned they would find the current state of affairs there rather similar to what they left. Power still centralised in paris amount a few well connected politicians all former university friends and classmates , the government still living in beautiful palaces. For all the range it is still very much the same.
