According to the Middle East Eye -

One of the British-Libyans spoken to by MEE described how he had carried out "PR work" for the rebels in the months before Gaddafi was overthrown and eventually killed in October 2011.

He said he was employed to edit videos showing Libyan rebels being trained by former British SAS and Irish special forces mercenaries in Benghazi, the eastern city from where the uprising against Gaddafi was launched.

"They weren't cheap videos with Arabic nasheeds [songs], they were slick, professional glossy films which we were showing Qataris and Emiratis to support troops who were getting elite SAS training."

How involved do you think the Irish government were in arranging training by former Irish special forces to a NATO-led operation and war of aggression? Or are we going to get the 'it was private, nothing to see here'?

Curious involvement by the Irish in Libya - the Irish state was falling over itself to praise and support people going over there to overthrow Gaddafi, it's involved off its coast in a 'humanitarian' mission with a significant military overtone (Phase 3 of that plan envisages going into Libya). Now we hear Irish special forces were involved with NATO training. What does the government have to say about this?

"Former". I fell the cold hand of the state in this. Or Sinn Féin. Definitely Sinn Féin. Jesus wept.
I defend Sinn Fein when they are being unjustly attacked.

However they did behave disgracefully during NATO's assault on Libya, not nearly as disgracefully though as the PBP/SWP and the Whatever-they-are-called-now/Socialist Party.

It does worry me that maybe the Shinners are capable of pimping the ROI to NATO in exchange of getting rid of the border.

And pray tell how did the Socialist Party behave 'disgracefully'?

Irish State special forces are poorly paid and yet very well trained and the lure of money means they usually end up being mercenaries/independent contractors. In many cases they help small countries tighten up their security and combat drug trafficking and they do a fine job, other lads just follow the money and end up in dark places.

Oh yeah, and Sinn Fein as well. If that Dublin bus to Derry wasn't cancelled none of these lads would have ended up as mercenaries.

What is an Irish Special Forces mercenary?
Ex-Irish army?

How can the State be held responsible for mercenaries who are Irish?

This is daftest nonsense.

Why would the Irish State need to be involved with sourcing private military contractors?

Many ex military from Western countries are hired by security companies, foreign countries etc.

A mate of mine who was a mechanic with the Air Corp got hired by the Air Force of one of Emirates.

Well let me put it to you like this:
a) do you think the 'former' SAS were there by chance without British government approval?
b) do you know what liaison there was between former SAS/Irish Rangers and the various 'official' bodies operating there? For example, in Afghanistan British mercenaries were operating under the aegis of NATO with ISAF IDs allowing them privileged access.
c) do you think the Irish were there just by chance?
d) mercenaries are used, increasingly, as deniable assets within imperial power projection.

Do I have to point everything out to you? I am asking what is actually going on, not what petty evasive logic you can drum up in a heartbeat to deny everything. This has repercussions for our neutrality as well as the security of our citizens. It also will give an insight into the Irish government's actual operations and plans for Irish involvement with these genocidal imperial adventures.

I don't know, quite possibly. If the Irish are working in Libya with the British and in Mali with the British, even under British command I think, well one wonders about the connections with Syria. There is also the curious case of Bolivia where a bunch of mercenaries recruited from amongst security guards in Corrib were employed to head over to south America to engage in a bit of recreational regime change.

I also noted that around the time the report on the Tuam bodies was dominating the headlines, the Irish government joined with other EU defence ministers in unanimously agreeing to setting up a headquarters in Brussels to centralise and oversee operational control of military activities in Mali and elsewhere - an embryonic EU army military headquarters. This passed more or less unremarked from what I could see in the Irish media.

They use Manchester to release Fiztpatrick from trial, they use Tuam to divert from attention over a serious attenuation of our neutrality - I think it's pretty obvious the trajectory here. This is what the gombeens call 'smart politics' - lying to your people and using secrecy and duplicity to align with imperial powers for sectoral advantage even when it potentially endangers your people.
