Dire days indeed for Fine Gael in Limerick. Split down the middle over who is to replace Senator Maria Byrne on the Council, legal actions have postponed the selection convention amid outrageous allegations of backstabbing, branch stuffing, sharp practise, dynastic entitlement and general sour grapes.

But fear not. A knight in shining armour is coming to the rescue.

Former mayor of Limerick seeks route back onto council - News - Limerick Leader

Could this be the same Sir Lancelot Kevin Kiely
- who left the party in a tiff over not being proclaimed Mayor for Life?
- who wanted to clear the Poles out of Limerick and then complained when he wasn't invited to a Polish function during his year as mayor?
- who ran as an independent candidate in 2011 when the Rat O'Dea was looking for someone to eat into the dastardly Peter Power's vote on the city northside?
- who has never had any connection with the City South ward which Maria Byrne represented?

Fine Gael are indeed blessed with such loyal talent at their disposal.

To enlighten those of us not from the Treaty City what and who are Gen Urko and Axelred talking about here?

Not sure what they're talking about but have a look at Sir Lancelot's main contribution to the 2011 election. (Flick forward to page 6).

Back in the days, there was a P.ie thread on His Knightship's contribution to Limerick public life and his in-depth knowledge of electoral law..

This appeared after he failed to get the FG nomination, subject of another thread.

for reasons which may be explained in this thread

and which may even go back to his memorable term as mayor.

So, just a typical Wednesday for the entitled ones.

Even I , a Limerick person, have no idea of what all the above is about.

You don't need to be from Limerick to understand that a well run organisation will gracefully handle replacements while an avaricious undisciplined bunch of entitled right wing yobbos will fall in to a fracas fighting over who gets the freebies.

Let's see how this contrasts with the co-option of SF Anna Marley's replacement in Galway

FG internecine feuds are dashed difficult to understand. Quite unlike Labour's straightforward shafting as in the decline and departure of Cllr Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
Tedious old nonsense generally

Former Limerick mayor calls on Fine Gael to 'do the right thing' - Home - Limerick Leader Fine Gael co-option based partly on people not on electoral register?
A current Fine Gael member was also in contact with the Leader this week, advising us to check out whether some of the people named on the register of voters seen by this newspaper last week were actually on the electoral register.
The Leader obtained the register used in February’s general election, and discovered that while 17 people were on the register at the addresses listed in the Fine Gael document, 18 were not.
Fine Gael investigates claims about 'ineligible members' in Limerick - News - Limerick Leader
this is very strange, im sure somebody will come along and say this happens all the time, but why would Fine Gael allow it to?

FG stand-off leaves council seat empty for three months - Independent.ie
A source said that, under the existing Fine Gael rules, all members of a branch are entitled to vote, regardless of where they currently live.
are branches not based on where people live?
