Does he think we are a nation of goldfish? Even if we were, there's an ad for a directory enquiries number on radio several times a day reminding us of these fateful words.

Jaysus wept.

Living beyond our means is having dinner every 3rd day I suppose.

Now stop your cribbing and moaning. Go and commit suicide.

Living beyond their means?
I think a lot of people think there are far too many living who shouldn't be by any means. I'm not advocating violence but I think if the various drug gangs and paramilitary types in the criminal underworld put aside a Sunday morning to whack all the major players responsible for this whole banking mess, very few of the law abiding public would care if they were ever caught.

The boot boy from Dundalk trying to recover credibility!!!

Given that only 2% think that this fool should be our next Taoiseach, he may be trying to get some kudos with his party faithfull. There are some paralells between this bozo and Haughey, both had/have greatly inflated egos.
They also both belong to the party that has driven our economy to bankruptcy 3 times in our short history.
Just go, for Gods sake go.

Economics is all about time preference. You live beyond your means today, you live below your means tomorrow. There's no avoiding that.

Talk about stating the bleedin' obvious .... it sounds like Joan Burton on a bad day....

is this the sort of brain farts we shall have to put up with of FG in the coming months as we near an election....?

Thanks, Luigi, for the Haughey video---I remember it well. That hooded, reptilian stare. No problem to Charlie to look us in the eye and make fools of us. What we didn't know wouldn't hurt us, I guess. Same as now, no doubt.

Those of us working in that era were paying 63 pence in the pound tax, driving falling-apart bangers, shopping for second hand lamps in Rathmines market to replace the single swinging lightbulb, trying unsuccessfully to save up for a washing machine---our domestic dream. Dishwashers were an unheard of American luxury.

I never stayed in a hotel in the 80s except the night of my wedding....really worried about paying basic bills. But felt so lucky to have a job, and to help out Charlie in his great project. Sharing the pain. All in this together. Everyone else is suffering too, deal with it.

Then came the drip-drip of revelations, the scams, the tax amnesties (instead of jail time) for those who couldn't be bothered with this tax-paying lark...

Fool me once......
