Word is Lord Mayor of Dublin Gerry Breen will stand for FG in the General Election but not in his home constituency of Dublin North Central. Is he eying a seat in Dublin Central where FG must fancy a chance of two out of five or will it be Dublin North East? Does anyone know? Bruton is home and hosed in DNC but no chance of two seats for FG, one for sure for Lab and probably Finian McGrath for last seat.

DC is a 4 seater and FG have no chance of two seats. One would be the best that could be hoped for. Gerry Breen would shore up a seat in NE.

Dublin Central is a four seater. I doubt FG would get a seat let alone two there.

Lord Mayor Gerry Breen went to convention in Dublin North East Fine Gael the last time and was unsuccessful in favour of Brody Sweeney.

FG DNE need to balance their ticket with someone of same ballpark age and who has similar business/entrepreneur skillset or experience as Brody Sweeney.

Breen is a County Fingal entrepreneur.

Should Breen's stint as Lord Mayor, a high profile position, should get him elected. It all depends on where he contests, contesting in the same constituency as Bruton and of course where he lives himself would make more sense.

Based on bye election I think FG will get one of the 4 afterall the FF vote for de Bert will be down even if the closeted one runs.
Paschal may well be in the mix for the last seat, but that is probably the best that can be said for FG in DC. If they run a second candidate, they need their heads examined. Labour on a much higher base aren't likely to bring in a second seat either. Joe Costello probably has the only safe seat. Lot of people hoping the Bert will run, just so he will turn up on their doorstep.

he's been one of the lowest profile LMs I can remember. I can't see him being elected anywhere, no chance in hell of 2nd seat in DC or DNC (or DNE). Long shot outside chance of 1 in DNW if they decommission Tormey, but even there is a very very long shot.

Put another shrink on the barbie

Tormey is a shrink, who supports the decriminalisation of marijuana.

There is no evidence Enda Kenny has ever tried marijuana.

Gerry Adams was never in the IRA.

What on earth is that all about? Incidentally I suspect Gerry wants the Seanad not the Dail.

Only 1 seat for FG in DC, can't see 2 being a runner. It's one of FG's worst constituencies

It's difficult to see. The only safe seat is Joe Costellos and then you've five other candidates (SF, Lab2, Donoghue, M'OS & FF's Fitzpatrick) in play for the remaining three seats. Donoghue doesnt seem to have a base there. If FG don't improve on their 07 result there or if there's a slight swing against them in Dublin I'd rule a seat out for Donoghue.

People are saying Dublin Central is one of FG's worst constituencies but didn't Pascal O' Donoughue run Maureen O' Sullivan close in the by-election last year?

My understanding is that it will be a one candidate strategy which makes sense

Yes, having contestd the previous GE, being a senator for two years and the bookmakers favourite to win.

O' Sullivan had a significant base there considering she was associated with the Independent TD Tony Gregory who held a seat there for nearly 30 years. That and being Gregory's election agent gave her an advantage.
