The "expert" report on the Property tax has been released today, a nice cynical move by FG!

In the above chart, on page 77, you will note the estimated returns on houses worth more then 1m.
the vast majority coming from the blue section and you can guess who that group are!

It was suggested in the media that Labour where unhappy and would only support the budget if a mansion tax was brought in.

Labour would have had access to this report before the budget.

Labour dressed up the mansion tax. Yhey sold there souls for a messly 1m.

What is the point of the Labour Party?

Are they a real political Party or just a bunch of Journey men?

I don't understand your point.

Should we increase the levy on mansions, or abolish it, or something?

Reducing the pay and expenses of our overpaid politicians would have also been the "right thing to do". What stopped them?

0.04% of properties are worth more than a million.

65.70% are worth up to 200k.

WHAT is your point? Exactly?

There are far more normal houses in the country, what way would you have expected the figures to be.
A little reality please.

Labour are racing down a well-worn path to political oblivion. cf Green Party. This 'mansion tax' is just a pathetic spin attempt. Gilmore et al. are shameless. The 200k lump sum deal shows they are only concerned with their own grubby millions.

Every little helps...

It's getting tedious listening to every 'special case' claiming their bit won't make much of a difference and therefore they should be left alone...

It was always going to be lots of little bits that were required... bits from everyone... although I don't believe some sections of our society have done anything close to their bit ...

I do hope Vincent Browne reads that chart though...

It might make him shut the f*** up about the vast amounts of wealth he claims are still here despite his claims being based on 2008 stats, which was close to the height of the madness and a time when Sean Quinn was still a billionaire...

None of that makes any sense.

They wanted a mansion tax.

They got it.

you really are a fool!

The labour Party dressed up the notion of a mansion tax so they could go along with the cuts FG wanted.

If I'm a fool, I'm in good company.

How did the Labour party dress up the notion of the mansion tax?

Being attacked for failing to implement policy is one thing but being attacked for doing what they claim they are ideologically predisposed to do is utterly laughable.

I think in the rush to stick the boot into Labour people are losing the run of themselves and jumping on any straw they can.

Anyone with a titter of sense knows that in the current property market the number of houses worth over a million is tiny. Eg, there are no houses in Galway worth a million. Not one. So this serves as a wealth tax only in a land populated with unicorns, leprechauns and other imaginary beasts.

If these figures are correct, and I have no reason to say they are not, it really fcks up SFs wealth tax calculations, indeed those loons in the ULA
