Marxist philosopher Slavoj Žižek explains why we shouldn’t pity or romanticize refugees

Interesting perspective from a Marxist philosopher. He makes a lot of sense too. No doubt like everyone else who doesn't drink the multiculturalism cool aid he'll be dismissed as a Trump supporting bigot.

'The Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek is worried about Europe’s attitude to refugees. He’s not talking about the far right populist parties—from Britain’s UKIP to France’s Front National—that have ridden a wave of zenophobia across the old continent. It’s the liberals he’s worried about.'

Following the terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015, Žižek warned that that liberals need to let go of the taboos that prevent open discussion of the problems that come from admitting people of different cultures to Europe, and in particular the denial of any public safety danger caused by refugees.'

All the Marxist philosophers in our pub have been saying this for yonks. You can't have a country with open borders.

It's the same situation in all the pubs in Lisburn.

They aren't impressed with the taboo-holding liberals.

Marx and Engels wrote against mass immigration, so this should come as no surprise. It's not Marxists who are in favour of mass immigration - Marxist countries have the strictest border controls - the USSR even had internal passports - its the SJW lot abusing the name of Marx, such as the SWP, SP and even Sinn Féin.

Much ado about nothing..

This doesn’t mean Europe should be less committed to taking care of desperate people seeking shelter, he says—but Europeans should be more realistic about the kind of effort it takes to do so. “It’s easy to be humanitarian if your principle is that the others whom we are helping are good warm guys, friendly,” he says. “What if they are not? My point is that even in that case we should be helping them.”

“Refugees are the price humanity is paying for the global economy,” Žižek writes, and though he is convinced that the only true solution in the long term is “a radical economic change that abolishes the conditions that create refugees,” that doesn’t solve the immediate emergency. Europe’s only option now, he says, is to commit to ensuring a dignified survival to all refugees that reach its shores.
That said, he's probably writing a 15,000 word rebuttal of the Quartz article as we speak, the moody fook. :)

Even though Professor Alexander Dugin opposed the USSR in the 1980s, his views are a lot closer to those of Marx than our so called Western Marxists are.

It's no harm that the left begins to see the wood for the trees on this issue but I wonder if this guy is facing up to the logic of his own misgivings as he is proposing that we continue to look after refugees which is a commendable stance on one level but if his misgivings are real the only conclusion is that immigration must stop. The only credible reason people like him want left wingers to start discussing this issue properly is so that they might come to this very conclusion having done this-the very reason those same lefties refuse to . It's no good discussing it unless you act on the fruits of your discussions. So the real question is whether he is ready himself having given in, unlike the others ,to the initial process. Or is he saying that you can go through this process and still conclude that large numbers of people who are culturally hostile can safely be allowed into your country.

“It is a simple fact that most of the refugees come from a culture that is incompatible with Western European notions of human rights,” writes Žižek. “The problem here is that the obviously tolerant solution (mutual respect of each other’s sensitivities) no less obviously doesn’t work.”
That's why the EU is so keen on importing these interlopers. Europeans think that they have rights, so, to extirpate these notions, the people behind the EU Commission intend to replace Europeans with Third Worlders.

That's about the height of it.

Most "Marxists" now think Marxism is about men wearing dresses and other brands of deviancy.

Zizek is at least attempting to maintain the notion that socialism is a product of the Enlightenment. Not a surrender to medievalism.

He still wants to let them all in, he just wants liberals to accept that they will destroy Europe.

Well the commies built a big wall , but if you go back in history so did the Romans , the Chinese plus loads more , so borders do seem to be sacred to people .
