Mary Hanafin - Hypocrite

Mary Hanafin has been quoted in the Independent today ("Thousands seeking help as debts surge") as saying ... "We are seeing more and more people across the country experiencing financial difficulties -- whether they lost their job or been put on reduced working hours or have taken a reduction in pay. In the past year there has been a substantial increase in the number of new clients approaching the MABS service."

OK, so she admits that people are suffering and need help. (Admittedly, she neglects to mention that most of the people are suffering directly because of the decisions and policies implemented by her Govt ... but no matter!).

This is the same Mary Hanafin that is reported in todays Irish Times ("Hanafin warns of welfare cuts") as saying that there will be cuts in social welfare rates and changes in child benefit in the next budget. Minister Hanafin said that it would be “impossible” to look at ways at cutting public expenditure, without considering reducing social welfare payments. Hanafin is quoted as saying "I do accept that you cannot avoid cutting the social welfare budget ... There will undoubtedly be changes in child-benefit; there will undoubtedly be cuts in the social welfare budget."

Right then. She is going to "help" those suffering people by cutting social welfare.

Hmmm. How the f3uk will that help them!!!???!???

What I object to is Hanafin talking out of both sides of her mouth like this. And how the fu3k can she have the nerve to say this and still support John O'Donoghue? And that other t0sser Dick Roche?

She has always made me sick. She is typical FF scum and her and the rest of her rotten "pigs at the trough" party need to be delivered to political oblivion by whatever means necessary.

And this needs to be done as soon as possible.

Any Minister who says

'Unfortunately Irish people are living longer'

cannot in fairness be accused of hypocrisy.

She has told us exactly what she thinks of us.

Well, she did claim to be a "Clinton Democrat", when her, and her entire family (particularly Des Hanafin) would make the Bush/Palin wing of the Republican Party blush.

Just saw this from SF:

Sinn Féin has challenged the Minister for Social and Family Affairs
Mary Hanafin to live on social welfare for a month
after the Minister today confirmed that welfare rates will be cut in the
upcoming budget.

Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:

“Mary Hanafin’s announcement today, that the €21billion social welfare
budget is ‘a huge drain on public finances’, revealed how our government
prioritises its citizens. Committing the necessary funds to maintain an
adequate standard of living a burden on the public finances according to
this Government and should be cut.

“Minister Hanafin has expressed that in her considerations she is
looking for the system fairest to all before she takes the axe to the
Social Welfare Budget. I challenge Minister Hanafin and her colleagues
to make concerted efforts to live on social welfare for a month, to
provide for a small family on the subsistence the State offers to
families, to settle the range of debt that Irish people today have
accumulated since the death of the Celtic Tiger, all on the welfare
payments that the State provides.

“Talking about Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS), the Minister
said that young people between 25-40 have accumulated ‘debt all over the
place that needs to be managed, needs to be controlled’. Following on
from this the Minister warned of Social Welfare cuts. Where is the
logical reasoning here? In the same breath the Minister talks about the
diverse range of debt that has accumulated and then wants to cut the
main form of subsistence that most of these people have.

“Putting more staff in MABS will not resolve the underlying problem.
The increase in MABS staff is welcome as they will help struggling
families to manage their money. However, the Minister has confirmed
that she will be making their jobs much tougher by cutting the main
source of income that their clients have to manage.

More adult politics from PSF, I see.
And we suppose that the antics you get up to constitute 'adult politics' ? If anyone is saying that those on welfare can take a cut, it is very reasonable to ask them to do want they expect others to do.

1. Stop stalking me from thread to thread. You can't imagine how undignified you look.
2. Asking people what they expect others to do is not the same as ordering the Minister to live on social welfare for a month.
3. Are you capable of addressing the points people raise as opposed to the straw men that populate the interior of your head?

Don't flatter yourself. Guys that think and act like you must always be challenged. The Minister is not being 'ordered' to do anything. Those on welfare don't have such power. What it is reasonable to do is to ask that she live on the dole for a month so that she can experience for herself what it is like and then any decison with regard to it will be made full in the knowledge of the impact it would have on those on welfare.

Once again people are failing to realise that we will borrow up to one third of the €21bn social welfare budget this year.

This can only be funded higher taxes or cuts(more than likely) elsewhere.

People have to stop thinking that no expenses should be cut.

The social welfare budget has risen from €8bn in 2002 to over €21bn now.
Dole only makes up €4bn- €5bn of this.

That's not reasonable - it's puerile and achieves nothing, as you well know.
That's your opinion and I have more regard for the opinion of a skunk.

Does anybody know how much Hanifins Mother received in compo when she fell in the Dail?
Ms Hanafin's mother has settled a personal injuries claim against the State after the fall while on a visit to Government buildings in 2007. Mona Hanafin brought the case in late 2007, naming the Taoiseach, Ireland and the Attorney General as defendants in her claim.

Hanafin is also the bright spark that was quote a couple of years ago complaining that young families buying new homes were more concerned with the colour of the wallpaper than local schools, when trying to divert attention for her government's near total failure to provide new schools in large new housing areas.

Hopefully her demotion will be a prelude to her losing her seat.

Did she name her daughter as a defendant, as a member of the House and Government?

Maybe, when someone falls, the person themself is responsible...

Hanafin's great at the old side of the mouth, opposition in government thing.
When Batt O'Keefe first raised the restoration of 3rd level fees, Hanafin gave an RTE interview and rubbished it completely.

A truly awful woman. A pure spinner with no substance. Stands for nothing except for the possibility of a promotion. The really sad thing is that she probably thinks she's in with a shout of being the next leader of FF (instead of being out the door!!).

Come to think of it, why not? Hanafin as leader? That would really finish them off.
