About 80% of the population of Finland are members of the Evangelical Lutheran church. Recently over 30000 people have left the church over what has become the most dividing issue within the church for a long time, that is the gay rights and how the church should tolerate gays or should it tolerate them at all.

We have a system of registered civil partnership for the sexual minorities and in the eyes of the law that is equal to a heterosexual marriage. However, gay-rights activists are pushing for further, they want the church to bless the registered partnership and start calling it a marriage.

This has provoked a fury from the conservatives within the church. Many people are leaving the church for opposite reasons, some believe that the church is far too tolerant of gays as it is while others leave the church exactly because they believe that the institution is the last bastion of homophobia in Finland.

Which Church of the Sky Fairy are they moving to? Are the shamans and witchdoctors in that Church more or less homophobic?

Homophobic is such a weasel word isn't it? Like saying Hitler was Judaphobic which is somehow acceptable to talk about in public.
