Mélenchon's dual currency proposal

While Le Pen wants to ditch the euro and revert to the franc, the new standard-bearer of the French Left wishes for both to simultaneously circulate. Most countries with a dual currency system seem to be either economically dependent on a powerful neighbour (Swaziland and Lesotho to SA, Belarus to Russia), or else minuscule islands, for whom an independent currency confers little benefit (Kiribati, Tuvalu). Eurozone members fit into neither category, so what incentives would consumers have to use An Punt Nua in addition to the euro? The whole concept seems terribly impractical.

France has absolutely no need of the Euro. What France needs is a Central Bank that has the power to control the money supply for the benefit of France.

It might work - but not if a clown like Melenchon is in charge of it.

He will waste the money, until is like another confetti.

Melenchon is Chavez without the belly.

Well it did exist prior to Monetary Union for a couple of years when you could Trade in both Euros and you own currency.

The Euro has been an absolute disaster for us

- as the Central Powers took control

- and set economic policy to suit their own agendas...

And we can like it or lump it....:|

I imagine they would use the different currencies on different days of the week.

Polls show Melanchon would beat Le Pen by more than Fillon. He would beat her 57-43 in second round. Interestingly Melanchon also supports referendum on EU membership.

You poor dim-sH8t. See how far your Punt Nua will take you.

The EU saved your arses in 2010. Blame the EU for voting in FF and turning a blind eye to massive corruption and incompetence. It was the fault of the EU. Nothing to do with catelpest. :)

Fianna Fail fantasists. That's Pie...

More manure.

FF & the EU are part if the same racket.

The EU saved Frankfurt & Paris based private sector financual interests.

They lobbed us with more debt. To the point that we have a very dangerous debt level in thus country.

We also have virtual GDP statistics and REAL debt.
