In the deepest sense of irony, Angela Merkel is now committing to place immigration controls at the Austrian border (and presumably all borders) in order to stem the unfettered flow of illegal immigrants into Germany.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/02/world/europe/angela-merkel-migration-coalition.html

BERLIN — Chancellor Angela Merkel, who staked her legacy on welcoming hundreds of thousands of migrants into Germany, agreed on Monday to build border camps for asylum seekers and to tighten the border with Austria in a political deal to save her government.

Surely this is the final indictment on this odious woman who seems to have come to see herself as a divine monarch, not required to serve the electorate.

In the end, she wasn't morally principled at all. Rather than resign after her grand plan is utterly rejected by a groundswell of opposition, she is willing to jettison it. This lays bare her lack of any genuine moral fibre whatsoever. She just wants to cling to power.

Wasn't she just reelected for a fourth term? That's the hallmark of monarchical behaviour, if ever there was one.

Zoo.

About time this new dictator of Germany has her wings clipped. She feels she is Europe and other nations have no input. Danke Herr Seehofer.

At this point in time Merkel has done more u-turns than CJH.

And has the same credibility as The Drumcondra Ditherer.

Merkel, has only one constant - holding onto power, at all costs to everybody else.

246 out of 709 seats at the last Federal election. Yeah, a real mandate from the people. You muppet, her lack of an electoral mandate (and ever declining electoral support) is the entire point of the story.

It's probably her last term. Any likely candidates to replace her?

It's hilarious alright... especially when watching and listening to all the anti-EU whingers who are just gagging for the entire thing to fall asunder without a smidgen of a plan for the aftermath...

The EU's imminent demise has been predicted for years and decades... and yet on it goes...

I've no problem with politicians taking U-Turns either... as long as they're based on obvious public opinion... and it's been obvious since 2015 that Merkel made a big mistake and that public opinion in Germany and around Europe is wanting far more controlled immigration...

Whoever can cobble together a coalition. The Bundestag is so badly fragmented these days that people don't blink at the prospect of a grand coalition. I remember when the very possibility of a grand coalition was so terrifying to public consciousness that is caused chaos.

Coalition governments are the rule, not the exception in Germany. So of course she got the mandate of the German people to stay chancellor.

Chaos over fears of a grand coalition... in Germany?

When was that exactly...?

How will the SPD react to this proposal? They are even more PC than Merkel when It comes to Mass Immigration.

Hard to imagine any other POTUS would be so ignorant and disrespectful.

Trump slams 'underspending' NATO allies ahead of key summit, warns WTO: 'We will be doing something' | Fox News

At the G7 summit last month, Trump reportedly tossed Starburst candies at Merkel, who was famously close with former President Obama.

"He stood up, he put his hand in his pocket and he took two candies out, threw them on the table and said: 'here, Angela, don’t say I never give you anything,'" consultant Ian Bremmer told CBS News.

Putin and his puppet Trump may succeed in ousting Merkel

Merkel is past her sell by date politically, she should have stepped down in early 2015 before she decided to culturally destroy Germany by allowing in over 1 million Muslim immigrants.

It's all pretty obvious now... the pattern...

Meet with 'allies'... alienate them as much as possible followed by Tweet storms...

Then head off to an old foe (preferably authoritarian) and tell everyone everything is terrific and that you really like this guy etc. blah blah blah...

G7 to Kim

Next

NATO to Pootin

The medium/long term damage Trump is doing to America is probably incalculable...

Am I mistake, but haven't you appeared on a number of threads over the past cheerleading the flood of illegal immigration into Europe?
