Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Russian dissident (?) wants Ireland to give him back €100m - are we resourced well enough to decide ?

The Soviet Union breakup was messy , and many a gangster profited ... however ... not all of those who profited, need to have been gangsters

Mikhail Khodorkovsky wants his hundred million back
Khodorkovsky begins Irish court action to unfreeze
Mikhail Khodorkovsky, once Russia’s richest man and now a fierce critic of Vladimir Putin, has said an Irish court should unfreeze €100 million of his assets, or tell him what he has done wrong.
...Under money-laundering legislation, the courts can, at the request of the Garda, make 28-day freezing orders, and the order made freezing the money being claimed by Mr Khodorkovsky and others has been repeated on a monthly basis since the original 2011 ruling.
Some more here

It is the Gardaí who requested the freeze - and given the sensitivity - it can be expected the AG Máire Whelan has sight of the case

Issue is, Máire does not have a lot going on upstairs, and is known for toeing the line

Her boss ... is well a Wally

The Gardaí are well ... Keystone Coppish

Some of the judges the matter has come before, are not even of the variety that can drool discreetly

Information from the Kremlin has been relied upon ... how are any of the above in a position to be of assistance on such a case ?

Question - How did Mikhail Khodorkovsky come to be in possession of billions of dollars worth of Soviet oil?

a/ The Soviet people loved him so much they gave it to him as a present.

b/ He stole it.

Answers on a postcard to V. Putin, Moscow.

Surely it should be given to Denis O'Brien?

What is his status in Ireland?

Has he taken citizenship?

If he is still a Russian citizen, on what basis is he residing in Ireland?

MK/Yukos never stole a drop oil from the Russian Govt.

Russian Govts have always sought to buy the oil from producing companies and force a low price on them, then as they own the pipelines required to get the oil to market, sell the oil at market prices to buyers.

Yukos sought to break this Govt monopoly/control but paid a price which destroyed the company.

If Yukos/MK own these monies and can prove it, it should be handed over before Russian Govt trumps up documents to say it is owed as "back tax" which is how they dropped MK in prison the first time.

You think your money is safe in a bank because your name is on the account? It's not.

All it takes is a letter contesting ownership and the bank will freeze the account until you sort it out.

Some points

For the Irish system to fully assess this case they'd need
(a) Solid knowledge of Russian law, corruption and language
(b) Forensic document examiners
(c) Links to trusted people on the ground in Russia who could conduct investigations

This is the best I can come up with
(a) Noel Smyth
(b) Martin Coyne of Digitpol
(c) Kebab

One day the Soviet people owned all that oil, and the next day our Jewish hero had it all. How did that happen?

At one stage he owned half of all the oil reserves in Russia.

That would equate to 10% of all the oil in the world

Soviet people owned it on bits of paper only, the Govt elite had control of the oil rights and waited to see who of their own fought their way to the top and be in a position to bribe the elite and so it came to pass.

MK is a Russian Jew by birth, some oligarchs are not but signed up for the protection of an Israel Passport

So he obtained it corruptly then, like the vast majority (if not all) of them.

It was the Govt elite who controlled the rights, they sold to MK but they did not pass all the benefits to the people they kept a lot for themselves privately, without their corruption, MK gets nowhere, same with every other oligarch.
