Is this the biggest indication yet from Moscow that is suspects Assad's regime future is in doubt?. Is this just a start of a much larger evacuation that will begin soon?. Will Russia push Assad to step down, and hope to court new government?

Kremlin to start evacuation of Russians from Syria - Yahoo! News

MOSCOW (AP) — The Russian government says it is sending two planes to Lebanon to evacuate Russians from Syria, the first such effort since the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad began in March 2011.
The Emergency Situations Ministry said two of its planes will fly to Beirut on Tuesday to carry more than 100 Russians from Syria.

Monday's announcement appears to reflect Moscow's increasing doubts about Assad's ability to cling to power and growing concerns about the safety of its citizens.

Russia's Foreign Ministry has said that it has contingency plans in place to evacuate thousands of Russians from Syria.
Russia has been the main ally of Assad since the start of the conflict, using its veto power at the United Nations Security Council to shield the Syrian strongman from sanctions.

Russia's allegaiance will fall on whoever seems likely to win. They need to keep thier Mediterranean Naval Base there so are unlikely to come out in full support of any side until they can be assured of who will be victorious.
This announcement is a sign that Russia believes things are coming to an end. For which side will determine support.

The presence of an increasingly aggressive Sunni supremicist presence in Syria, and the reverse of a moderate form of secularization in the local political forcefield will be a disaster that will result in more violence and suffering.

Assad might have been bad. But what will take his place might well be an absolute disaster. It now seems like that we will see an even more brutal form of repression, based solely on religion - and even within the Sunni community there will be a power struggle between the religious nutters and the moderates.

Disaster in sight !!!

Each plane can carry about 120 passengers, so its likely more than 100.

To put it mildly the fulsome support that the Russians have given Assad will not have gone unnoticed by Assads opponents. The new regime may well decide to tell the Russian navy to go take a running jump.
