Tut tut tut, given the morbidly obsessed nature of our culture, how easily you all rely on foreign songs for your funerals ;)

Plenty of good Irish ones.

YouTube - Áine Ní Dhroighneáin - Amhrán Mhaínse-Amhrán Mhuighnse

YouTube - LCaoineadh na dTrí Muire (The Lament of the Three Marys) - iarla O Lionaird

YouTube - Skara Brae - 'Amhrán Hiúdaí Phadaí Éamoinn'
At the risk of being castigated by those present who have a preference for Traditional music, if anyone plays any of that diddly iddly music at my funeral there is NO doubt, that I will be back to haunt them!! :)

Well if you like the traditional route, may I recommend the following performance of one of favourite pieces:

When our daughter died we played, as ppoints in the mass, 'Silent Night' (Jewel) which was beautiful, 'love song....' by Annie Lennox (once I had the rarest rose, that ever deigned to bloom, cruel winter chilled her bud, and stole my flower too soon....), 'MLK' by U2 and 'You Have Been Loved' by George Michael, which is a perfect song for entrance to church...

It's incredibly difficult to get an appropriate song as many are either about break ups etc.

Love Song For A Vampire

Come into these arms again
and lay your body down
The rhythm of this trembling heart
is beating like a drum
It beats for you it bleeds for you
it knows not how it sounds
For it is the drum of drums
it is the song of songs

Once I had the rarest rose
that ever deemed to bloom
Cruel winter chilled the bud
and stole my flower too soon
Oh loneliness Oh hopelessness
to search the ends of time
For there is in all the world
no greater love than mine.

Love o love o .... still falls the rain
Love o love o .... still falls the night
Love o love o .... damned forever

Let me be the only one
to keep you from the cold
Now the floor of heaven is laid
the stars are bright as gold
They shine for you they shine for you
they burn for all to see
Come into these arms again
and set this spirit free

So sorry about your daughter adamirer, and what a lovely lyric to that song too. How very painful to bury your child.

May I ask, was it long ago adamirer? I'm very, very sorry that you lost your daughter, and I hope you and your family have found some peace since then.
Dec 2007. The very expensive private hospital, or more specifically the consultant f****d up. Aisling died at birth, full term.

By xmas 2008 we got a healthy boy though. We went with the Coombe and though medically there was a repeat issue, they were on the ball. A month perm, but he's fully caught up now :)

Never diminshes the memories, but makes life easier.
Thanks :)

Since 2000, at least half a dozen people have been murdered while singing the Frank Sinatra classic My Way...

Van Morrison - Carrickfergus if you want to leace your loved ones in bits :)

And in Kilkenny it is reported
On marble stone there as black as ink,
With gold and silver I did support her
But I'll sing no more now till I get a drink.

I'm drunk today and I'm rarely sober,
A handsome rover from town to town.
Oh but I am sick now and my days are numbered
Come all ye young men and lay me down.
