Would just like to point out, that whilst the SB headline states 2000 jobs, the text states 200.

If you are looking for work, Revenue is looking for you.

It's amazing how high unemployment can create more jobs for Revenue.

The Revenue Commissioners have received Government approval, to break the ban on hiring in the public sector, to fill up to 200 vacancies.
Revenue are working out details of the new recruitment drive after clearance from the DOF.

200 seems likelier. If there were 2000 vacancies, they'd not be functional. It'd be sort of nice to work alongside me bro, and I'd get more most surely.

You'd have so much time for shopping or bird watching when they strike. Notice the Tuesday or Thursday strike days. Do a sickie and long weekend ftw.

Pity the ban is immovable in sectors such as Speech Therapy, eh?
I think i'd rather more people working in revenue- after all you need those taxes to provide for services that are available in the private market

What a load of rubbish.

Ideal opportunity to redeploy existing staff in other non optimized areas of the CS, reduce bloated headcount, save money and even improve:remodel/improve efficiency in the revenue dept.

But instead the government decides to replace existing staff, wasn't the idea of early retirement to reduce headcount and save money ?.

Someone please tell me this is a just a PR release and will not happen in reality !!!!.

This will probably be cost neutral, because it seems that a lot of high ranking officials have left Revenue because of pay cuts and threat to pensions. Tax officials are warned not to share 'inside' knowledge - Irish, Business - Independent.ie

It seems they can earn much more in the private sector. Its worrying that at a time when state needs to raise as much tax as possible that they are losing their most experienced people to tax specialists whose primary role is to ensure the better off pay as little tax as possible. Who better to act as poachers than some former game keepers!

It was a misprint. It should have read 200 new staff required and 1,800 whistleblowers :)

I think they are setting up an investigation team to investigate all lodgements to Ministerial ( both past & present ) Bank accounts especially after Mr Sterling Deposit let them in to have a look around :)

Probably investigate Padraig Flynn next :)
