Is this the same GS that 'helped' Greece gain entry into the eurozone?

A superb banker who has steered Canada through some dangerous waters.

The usual rent-a-crowd of idiots who are programmed to start ranting automatically by scanning headlines with words such as "Goldman" will probably join this thread soon :)

Interesting to see that he costs less than Mike Aynsley.

Much more admiration for a guy that has left Goldmans and has gone into the "public" sector than the other way around

At least he has some knowledge of what Goldmans would have been up to and surely is in a better place to put regulations in place that will prevent them from crucifying taxpayers in the future

Coupled with how well Canada have managed through the last few years and had little or no property bubble

All in all an excellent appointment

Shame we can't lure some canadian bankers to here to take over from the shower we have - Imagine Boucher is actually running a bank!

I'd say running the Bank of England is a much easier task than sorting out the IBRC mess petunia

They'll ignore he left Goldman Sachs a long time ago and his CV does make him look well qualified for the job.

I can imagine we'll soon get the usual conspiracy nutjobs showing up with comments about vampire squids and quotes from idiotic sites like zerohedge.

At least the BoE ran an interview process to appoint the new head - don't remember the CBI doing the same when Honohan was appointed; NTMA appointed an insider as did Nama.

Is he getting out just before the crash ...

Moody's Investors Service has cut the ratings of six Canadian banks, including the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Bank of Montreal, by one notch due to concerns about rising consumer debt and "elevated housing prices."

The other banks cut were Bank of Nova Scotia, Caisse Centrale Desjardins, National Bank of Canada, and Toronto-Dominion Bank
