Anyone have any comments on the latest pubic sector CEO appointment?
Is it radical?

Doesn't look it.

Will he reign in salaries of the top, ahem, 'stars'?

Chairperson of the RTÉ Board, Tom Savage, said: 'This appointment follows an exceptionally intensive and exhaustive international recruitment process.
what a laugh!

Interestingly, back in May, he quit RTE:

The managing director of television at RTÉ Noel Curran is to step down from the position in May, the broadcaster confirmed this afternoon.

RTÉ said Mr Curran, who has been with the broadcaster since 1992, is leaving on May 26th in order to pursue other interests.

Unlikely. He'll be on a pretty penny himself if he get's what Goan got.

Emoluments of Director-General

Cathal Goan
- Basic salary €276,000
Other benefits
- Pension contributions €24,000
- Other benefits €26,000

Total €326,000

1 With effect from 1 June 2009 the Director-General’s annual
basic pay was reduced by 12.5%.

2 Expenses amounting to €6,063 (2008: €9,867) were
incurred by the Director-General in the conduct of the duties
of the post.

No performance related pay was awarded
or paid in respect of 2009 or 2008.
Pension benefits earned during the year
and total accrued pension at 31 December
2009 were as follows:

Total accrued pension at year end €128,000

1 The accrued pension shown is that which would be paid
annually on normal retirement date, based on service to
the end of the year. This is lower than the amount stated in
2008 due to the implementation of pay cuts in 2009.
Nice ...
