A courageous decision which we would do well to follow.
Irish Times said:
...Two centre-right parties have agreed to ban the burqa in the Netherlands as a price for parliamentary support from the anti-Islam Freedom party for their minority government.
The pact, presented today, envisages €18 billion in budget cuts and aims to bring the deficit within European Union limits by 2013. It tightens the rules on immigration, boosts the number of police officers and makes coffee shops closed clubs.
The size of parliament and the senate will be cut by a third, there will be fewer ministries and local government levels and spending on culture and the public broadcaster will be cut.
Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders said the measures would cut non-Western immigration by half.
The pact still needs approval by a Christian Democrat (CDA) congress on Saturday after the party failed to resolve divisions on whether to rely on support from the Freedom Party during 15 hours of talks today.
If the coalition deal is rejected by the CDA, it could prolong a policy deadlock on how to cut the budget deficit from 5.8 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP)...
Muslim and non-Muslim women in the Netherlands can now breathe more easily knowing that another chain of male subjugation of women has been thrown off. Secularists can breathe more easily knowing that Holland's secular traditions - upon which its tradition of tolerance largely depends - are more secure than they were yesterday. Write to your TDs to press for a similar measure in this country.

Now that's what we should be doing.

The agreement to cut the size of parliament by a third and cut the number of ministries is far more interesting to me.

Pity we can't do the same here.

The message to Islamist wingnuts should be clear.

We in the civilised West are not women hating barbarian head hacking semtex waistcoat wearing primitive scumbags and if you sexually repressed muppets don't like casual sex, hardcore porn, alcohol, page 3,scantily clad babes and other harmless fun, feck off to Koranistan or wherever else you hairy turds came from.

Pathetic of you to oppose women's liberation from the tyranny of the burqa. I don't buy the "Far Right" label given Wilder's support for Israel and his previous political-past. Furthermore, the ban in France has universal support including many in the Socialist Party. Your post is an example of how the Left support male-domination of women as long as its not a Christian doing it. Such is muliculturalism and its willingness to accept Sharia as a price for appeasing Islamic radicals.

Pathetic of you to support the tyranny of the state over women's right to choose.

You mean the Zionist oppressors of the Palestinians, don't you?
If he was "Far Right" then he would be anti-semitic which he obviously isn't.

Only in the sense of "right" meaning "correct". He supports gay marriage which is a leftwing/centrist position. Good on him I say. Congrats to the Dutch for finally overthrowing their country's tyranny of Political-Correctness. Would that we will too.

another chain of male subjugation
But that's OK, because that's white male subjugation. Better to go after the brown ones, it makes pathetic white people feel better about themselves if they imagine their race to be better than other races. And that - not sex - is what this "debate" is really about.
