Remember this Former Fas chief Greg Craig in probe linked to Fianna Fail

GREG CRAIG, the former director of corporate affairs at Fas, who is at the centre of the agency’s multi-million euro financial controversy, has extensive links with Fianna Fail.

Craig, who was exposed as the central figure in a series of financial irregularities in the state training agency, once ran for election for Fianna Fail and was a constituency assistant for the late Brian Lenihan Sr.

It does seem that somebody should be discussing some of these FAS issues with Greg

btw might be an idea to add the name of the newspaper to the op.

You might want to edit that post as it's very likely actionable.

Have considered your concerns and do not think you are correct, stories on Greg Craig and the whole FAS scandal have been out in the public arena for at least 2 years, what I have said is mild in comparsion and I will fully stand over what I have stated.

Young Michael O'Leary was on the radio saying we should get rid of FAS and save a billion. It certainly should be wound down, baord, top management and their junket department exterminated.
Some hope.

Could be worse, 40k/year was roughly market rate at the time of the lease.
why pay market rate for something one does not need?

FAS is rotten and cronyism was order of day in there. I know a girl who works in there and she said if you aint with FF you stood little chance of getting jobs in FAS(loads of cushy low skill well paid ones were handed out under pretence of open competition) or contracts etc. Shut it down and outsource training to private training schools from abroad.

None of the guys at Fas think they are accountable to anybody except FF on a nod nod wink wink basis, they dodge PAC left. right and centre, probably knowing in the end Pac will only gently rebuke them, get the Fraud Squad in, Craig, Cooney and Molloy are laughing at the people/state.

Cooney should be dragged back from his hideaway at Croke Park and made to tell the truth about Fas under his time, suspend his secondment + salary and answers will be forthcoming sharpish.

just about start a thread on this,

the key line is this

Before the lease was signed, emails between Fas staff and solicitors noted that the then manager of finance and administration at the Finglas training centre, Patrick Kivlehan, wanted to see the lease signed off “as expeditiously as possible”. Kivlehan is now head of internal audit at Fas.
i like to know what led up to this, who's idea was to rent this place, was it he who was eager to rent the place or was eager on someone's behalf, how can investigates things he was involved in?

Sunday Times piece on Fás – The Story

read his contribution to the dail committees, http://debates.oireachtas.ie/DDebate.aspx?F=ACC20081218.xml&Node=2147#N2147
doesn't want to judge....

if they can't convict him on anything on why doesn't move on out of sheer embarrassment, there seems to be some mutual ass covering and excessive acceptance of graft less they all get dragged down.

FS - Directors sigh!

The updated version of the Story suggests it was a deal completed between mates , Greg Craig and Terry Oliver of OSK, everyone states the building seems unsuitable and would need a major refurb to be operational.

Yes, you are correct but this guy Oliver seems to have been handed several contracts by Craig, who had been suspended, now re-instated to a different job.

Has a cost/benefit analysis ever been carried out on FÁS?

Should we not be asking basic questions of that organisation since we hand over €1bn to it each year? Questions such as -

How many people entered full-time employment since completing a FÁS course and
How long did it take FÁS course participants to find work after completing a course?

I think 3rd level institutions could take over much of the work FÁS does. O'Leary has suggested that employers should be subsidised for providing on-the-job training.
