It appears that a Leo Varadkar has been announced by RTE Radio 1 as a guest presenter for Late Date. Late Date is a middle of the road snooze radio programme which is preceded by Late Debate, the popular current affair program.

Posters will note that the new presenter shares a christian and surname with a government minister. What a coincidence? Could there be 2 Varadkars in Ireland? Would they know one another?

O'Dea sounds bitter and accuses Varadkar of doing something that FF & Bertie Ahern in particular were masters of. Bertie would go on the media or talk to people and agree wth them that the Health service was a shambles and say 'I know it's shocking.. terrible altogether.. shame somebody wouldn't do something about it..' ( When he was leading an FF government ).

O'Dea also seems bitter about Vlad having a certain media teflon factor, which he does have and the fact that he's a gay man is part of that.

FG should make Vlad the next leader for that teflon factor alone. The media in Ireland will not criticise a gay man for anything. He could outsource the HSE to the Chinese and the media would probably not say too much about it.

FG should take advantage of the fact that the Irish media is infested with PC social justice warriors.

I can't believe you could possibly be right. Leo Varadkar after all is a cabinet minister with a huge budget who is responsible for welfare payments that make it into every home in the country. He's well paid and very busy. He's too young for a mid life crisis and wanting to be a disc jock playing MOR into the small hours? Sure the only thing Leo has down time for is going to Lepoardstown with a few TD's who are up in Dublin mid week but lonely?

The pretence of difference between the media and the politicians is wearing thin.

Ah yes but Bertie was the only Minister for Finance ever to win back to back All Irelands with the Dubs and then win an FA Cup and Premiership with Man Utd in the same year. He knew everything about Manchester, the best hotels to have a dinner in before a match in Old Trafford. Sure his knowledge of the game is unsurpassed.
Minister Dr Leo Varadkar on the other hand is no Michael Bublé. Sp what experience has this new presenter Leo Varadkar? He is not by the way a medical doctor so it must be a huge chance that 2 have the same name.

That'd be Willie O'Dea, the FF TD who was a regular celebrity political commentator in the Sunday Independent, or are there two Willie O'Deas?

Wonder what the fee is for presenting the show.

And will it be taxed or is there some concession slipped through in a Finance Act exempting TDs from tax on their 'nixers.'?

I'm with yer Granny on this one.

There's another thread going today about Russian propaganda....

If the station was RT and the politician was Russian would people be more comfortable highlighting the obvious? I.E. that our politicians and media are far too cozy, that they serve each other first and the electorate second and that this is an inversion of what the fourth estate is supposed to be about.

Leo is a shinier Pat Rabbitte. Pat never managed the transition from commentating to doing.

There's Deputy Willie O'Dea, there's Willie O'Dea Barrister, there's Willie O'Dea columnist in the Sunday Independent, there's Willie O'Dea stand up comedian who plays support to Mario Rosenstock and there's Willie O'Dea the well known street walker in Limerick.
