He has a background in European law, has worked in the EU institutions and speaks several languages I believe including French, the working language of the court.

Unfortunately the current selection process (I use that very loosely) lends itself to accusations of cronyism. I've no doubt his appointment in the first place to the High Court was closely related to his political connections.

Pity Ross has caved in.

Nominations of judges are made at cabinet by the minister for justice.

Effectively, France's Fitzgerald nominated her former running mate from Dublin South East in 2002 general election and Lord Ross didn't object

No one doubts his ability but there are many others who applied with equal ability but no FG background

The main thing is that a man got the job. If we had women on the bench, we would be forced to do housework and shave our balls.

He is a goodish judge...FG want him made go away

Ross ...ask him about his friendship with Dunphy, and what types of late night activities that might have entailed

Nominated for appointment to the High Court in 2012 by FG too.

Ireland - it's not what you know, it's who you know.

Cue blowhard muppets above

MacEochaidh nominated for appointment to High Court
he is most widely known as one of two barristers (the other being Michael Smith) who engaged a Newry firm of solicitors to place an advertisement in The Irish Times in 1995 offering an award of £10,000 for information leading to the conviction of anyone involved in corrupt land rezoning.
And the Pig ate Eugene's seat...

MacEochaidh was certainly active in FG until 2011 when he unsuccessfully sought co-option to Dublin City Council after Eoghan Murphy was elected as a TD

Has he ever attempted to expose FG corruption? Out of interest like

Not defending the FFailures, but all corruption needs exposing regardless of the party engaged in it

Ireland cant exclude people with political connections because everone has some political connections. We are a small country.

should being a member of a party disqualify one- in that case Carball O Dalaigh would never have been made a judge,he once ran for FF. Or Haughey sycophant Brian Walsh, deep into FF

He's the first High Court judge who didn't roll over and give [redacted] everything he wanted in his case against RedFlag.

Which must have caused panic in Enda's office and shrieks of "Get him out of the country ASAP!"
