FF and SF support list systems in their manifestos.
I can see why SF support a list system as they are centrally controlled.

I thought FF would have a more democratic system in the constituency - much less inclined to obey the suits from Dublin

Amazing FF were in government for 15 years and it never came up!!!!

Gombeen politics makes "manifestos" less valuable than toilet paper because typically they're not very soft and absorbent.

A lot of rural voters make no bones about expecting politicians to deliver for their constituency, and their politicians are happy to oblige. At least everyone is up front about it. The difference with Ross, is acting the same way, but with this middle-class urban pretense of disdain for clientelism. He's fooling nobody.
The crazy part is that Stepaside is a rural anomaly in a suburban constituency, Ross made much ado about nothing, same with the swimming pool in Stillorgan, pure Hely- Rae/ Lowry/Kelly/ Ring parish pump stuff, the nobby accent just glosses over the opportunist behind it.

The Party List system would give too much power to party HQs.
The Australian single seat constituency with transferable vote would force voters to choose between legislators and messenger boys. Problem is, if we elect 160 messenger boys, we can't form a govt.

What's remarkable about this episode is that Lord Ross apparently thinks that Stepaside is out in the sticks - a rural Garda station.

If that's what fashions his concept of rural, no wonder he's so f*cking out of touch with the real rural Ireland when it comes to his driving ban crusade.

It's one of those cases of politicians making representations. Those things go very badly wrong at times.

It might be a stupid question but what are the crime stats in Stepaside like? Is it full of murders and rapes or cats getting stuck up in trees and barking dogs?

after toiréasa ferris refused to condemn the murder of Garda Jerry McCabe on the late late there was a vote of no confidence

she survived because she was supported by FF councillors

think about that

remember that next time Micheál Martin swears he'd never work with SF

He must be preparing for a post politics career in Estate Agency.

Fitzgibbon St. Station, in Mary Lou McDonald's constituency, is to be re-opened.

You're welcome, Mary Lou.;)

I never would have thought Stepaside was outside the Pale
