Northern Irish Labour are trying to persuade British Labour to be able to allow them to stand on a non-sectarian, socialist platform, pro-normal politics in Northern Ireland, they need signatures to try and make this a reality. I thought as fellow labour supporters you may want to show your support. Thanks.

I put this in the Irish Labour forum as well.

Give me a break. If all you were after was a party promoting normal politics in a non-sectarian way you would support SDLP. But what you really want is a socialist party with a pro-British, pro-union agenda.

The SDLP is the Social Democratic and LABOUR party. Unfortunately in the north there is a zero sum game, one is either pro or anti union with the uk. To not take a stand is to support the status quo so by default one becomes unionist. Unless one makes it clear that one supports either side it is more or less impossible to get elected.

The Labour party in the UK is affiliated with the Party of European Socialists, as is the SDLP. Under PES rules no two affiliated parties can run in the same area.
