The latest casualty of the Kim regime's crackdown, after Kim Jong-un's uncle several years ago, has been Kim Jong-nam, half-brother of the country's supreme leader and original favourite to succeed their father Kim Jong-il. He was perhaps the regimes most outspoken critic in recent years.

North Korean leader's brother Kim Jong-nam killed at Malaysia airport - BBC News

He was killed in Kuala Lumpur airport before boarding a flight to Macau. He has been living in exile ever since trying to travel to Japan in 2001. Since then he became an open critic of the regime and was in favour of Chinese style reforms.

This along with other purges indicates a severe crackdown in Kim Jong-un's North Korea, possibly due to the increasing weakness of the country's isolationist policy.

Given the new US Presidents reassurances to the Japanese over security and developments in the nuclear weapons policy in recent weeks, what impact will this have on North Korea and its relations with the outside world?

The concept that gross treason should carry with it the penalty of death is hardly something strange or startling. Also what is it that prevents you from giving the country it's proper title?

Has anybody blamed the Russians yet ?

I reckon they are responsible for everything except the 'accident' involving a FF politician in Moscow.

Has there been any official statement from the pals of the Kim family in Ireland.

Eamon Gilmore, Pat Rabbitte, Frank Ross & co were all very close there to North Korea for a while.

You could not squeeze a dodgy 10 Dollar bill between them.

You need psychiatric help. Mossyman, on of your sicker accounts, thinks North Korea run Syria.

This does not say much for KL's security

Many many Irish people will want to attend the funeral.
Meh Irish people always want to attend funerals. Any funeral.

100 Irish people at a funeral isn't going to impress anyone more than 1 other nationality at one.
