Mr Swann added that Northern Ireland was instead working on "a Northern Ireland version" of the contact-tracing app, the first devolved administration to do so.

He told the committee this was necessary to ensure it worked with the one being developed in the Republic of Ireland.

"We have to ensure that we progress the work done for a Northern Ireland version so that it can interact with the Republic of Ireland app," he said.

Robin Swann should be praised for not following the uk approach to making an app for the virus. The app that they are developing will work well with iphone and android and should be downloaded by everyone a soon as possible.

Smart. They should have an NI app, a Scottish app, a Cornish App, an Orkney app and an English app, all using different OSs, metrics and support teams.

****wits.

The British app will be a new one. The one for northern Ireland will be just google and apples app with a new label. (for the most part).
