Northern Ireland : Does it have anything that would make it a nation?

Definition of Nation:

"A people, or aggregation of men, existing in the form of an organized jural society, usually inhabiting a distinct portion of the earth, speaking the same language, using the same customs, possessing historic continuity, and distinguished from other like groups by their racial origin and characteristics, and generally, but not necessarily, living under the same government and sovereignty."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation

With the rugby world cup possibly coming to the Island it was noticeable that the "National" football stadium did not get any of the matches.

Can anyone make the case that Northern Ireland meets the criteria of a "Nation"?

Depends on which definition one wants to use, here are another two.

"A relatively large group of people organised under a single, usually independent government;"

"a body of people in a particular location with a distinct government"

I doubt if you could name many/any "nations" which your definition applies to.

What's the useful purpose of the argument?

I wouldn't even open that door if I were you. Ireland plays as the Irish of Ireland the island in rugby and it's looking to land the Rugby World Cup. Things like that matter.

For those definitions it would be the UK.

It is a dysfunctional version of Alsace-Lorraine. I think that is the best description of it.

Not until we leave the EU.

No country in the EU can claim to be a nation whilst they stay members.

Under your definition, very few countries in the world can claim to be nations.
speaking the same language, using the same customs, possessing historic continuity, and distinguished from other like groups by their racial origin and characteristics,
so your attempt at demonising Northern Ireland is a failure, you should join SFIRA, they are used to delivering failures.

Unionism/OO spend a lot of their energy on making sure that their is issues to highlight the differences in society rather than work at bringing everyone together. Remember the crack of having one stadium?

Why isn't Windsor Park part of the World Cup bid?

Finland is celebrating it's 100 year anniversary as an independent Nation this year - you need to write pronto to the Finnish Govt. and advise them that an anonymous Unionist fanatic based in the North of Ireland has discovered that Finland, in fact, according to him, is not an independent Nation.

Finnish independence commemorations are well under way as Finnish National Independence Day is on the 6th December - so you'd better get that letter moving.

Be sure to keep us posted as to their reply.

Question is: Is it quicker than yon two DUPers who took to their heels last night when they were faced with ordinary people who are fearful for their jobs and future, those who can't get a pay rise versus those who jut got a whopping one?

How much are we paying for those safe spaces the DUPers can run to and hide away in?
Funny how ye all made a big song and dance about marty millions getting heckled...
