There are some real gems on the oul u-choob. I don't really have much to say on these - was just watching a few and thought I would share them with our little community. The colour ones are fantastic because they really bring you back to the place.

Great, thanks! And you could even have a go on the elephants at Dublin Zoo - see end of second video. I'll have a good look at these later.

Great stuff OP.

Threads like this have me ruined...

A few days ago I ended up booking a trip to Dublin for the first time in 3+ years after a particularly heart-wrenching chat on P.ie about the deliciousness of Irish sausages.

Thanks. :)

Sure look i'm only embedding a few videos. Thanks to the people who uploaded them and British pathe.

I love watching remastered old footage of places. The more mundane the better, you get a real glimpse of ordinary life and how different it was. The past truly is a different country

heh just hamming up the sentimentality a bit..

Oooh now that I think of it.. Irish ham is another thing I've been missing...

All the vids are before my time, but it's amazing how quick your mental map of the city snaps into action with just a glimpse...

They are before my time too. They are bang in the middle of my parents time though which could be why I find them so fascinating. I'm looking directly at the Ireland they grew up in.

And my grandparents' generation are still middle-aged in the films. I always thought of them as always being old, it's cool to see what they looked like in their heyday. They're young but they don't look like people of equivalent age today.

This is the closest you can get to time travel in my opinion :)
