The Green Party has called on Enda Kenny to cancel his visit to the White House on St. Patrick's Day. The calls are made to protest the recent en-action of laws stopping refugees and persons from seven countries entering the US, being discussed here - http://www.politics.ie/forum/us-politics/254262-suspended-welcome-syrian-refugees-usa.html and also to protest at the treatment of Mexico and concerns regarding torture.

The annual St. Patrick's Day pilgrimage to the White House is seen as a very valuable and indeed enviable tool that Ireland possesses and such a move would be at the very least noticed. Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan has commented that-

“While US immigration policy is a matter for the US authorities, it is clear that the most recent decisions could have far-reaching implications – both on humanitarian grounds and on relations between the US and the global Muslim community. Accordingly, I share the concerns of other EU partners regarding this most recent development. Many people are feeling great concern about these changes including some Irish citizens in the United States. Our embassy in Washington and consulates remain in active and ongoing contact with Irish immigration centres throughout the US. I am conscious that matters are still evolving and that the US courts are now involved. We will continue to monitor developments in this area very closely. Ireland has a vibrant multinational community which contribute a great deal to our country.”
So as per the OP title, ought the St. Patrick's Day trip to the White House be cancelled in protest at recent decisions by the Trump administration, should Ireland make any more statements on the matter or should we join forces with our EU colleagues and jointly decide on how such matters be dealt with as a whole, what say p.ie:confused:

None of Ireland's business what a Sovreign state does with their immigration laws.

Let the Muslim countrys like Saudi Arabia take in their fellow Muslims, aside from the fact nobody wants to go there.

Dude is there even a shred of self-awareness with you? You're easily one of the most tiresome, whinging gob$hites that posts here.

Your powers of projection are immense though. Fair dues on that score.

Sinn Fein and all the other lunatic parties know the hour of reckoning is approaching for them. So far, they want us to effectively declare war on Egypt, Russia and the USA. First of course, we have to rid ourselves of those parasites on the home front.

The annual St. Patrick's Day visit is a symbolic celebration of Ireland's cultural connection with the USA and the role of Irish-Americans in the US.

There are many other ways of disagreeing with the polices of the current US president.

The suggested stunt by Ryan is a good example of why the Greens were unfit for government and why they were part of a government that brought this country to it's knees.

Personally I would utterly respect the decision of a sovereign nation in this matter and to express concerns via normal diplomacy channels. I do think the decree issued by Trump and how it affects current green card holders seeking to return to the USA or persons connecting at an airport in the USA going to another destination is overly harsh.

It would be a pathetic gesture by the pathetic leader of a pathetic excuse for a nation.
