Over $600 MILLION sent out of Ireland to Nigeria in 2011

That is the startling claim made by the prestigious World Bank report into the money flows of Irish Emigrants and Foreign Immigrants for the year 2011

Irish people living abroad sent more than $750 million (€560 million) back home in 2011.

Foreign workers [?] living in Ireland sent almost $2.4 billion home in 2011.

That is a net loss to the Irish Economy of some $1.6 billion per annum!

The steady flow of money out of Ireland despite the recession is down to the high number of foreign workers still here, especially from countries such as Nigeria, India and China, said Dilip Ratha, manager of the World Bank’s migration and remittances unit.

How come the Nigerian population here (30-40,000) could send such a massive remitence home each year

When the Polish population (120,000 - 150,000) can send only about one third that amount back to Poland?

Go figure...:?

So they're able to live in Rip-Off Ireland and still send money home?
No mean feat.

It must have been the Pascal Mooney taxi fares before he took his business elsewhere.

Only half you reckon?
the rest are driving taxis whilst in receipt of the back to work allowance.

Only 500 Nigerians have ever been issued with a work permit.

Why so many of them here? They are bleeding us dry.

Help me out here please. These poor people left cruelty and persecution in Nigeria to come here for asylum. Why would they want to send money back there?

A simple task for S.W.,check those on welfare and investigate where money came from, if people on welfare are caught at excess spending/saving in ireland they are investigated, and rightly so.

Exactly. That would be racist. So it seems that these "refugees" are into drug dealing etc. Because despite their welfare scams there is no way they could afford to send that amount of cash home in any other way.

Oh dear, another dumbf*ck with two accounts - who calls themselves 'mikey' beside fat, 12 year old american kids?

Actually, it would seem that you are into drug dealing - where did you get the money for the device you used to write that post? Where did you get the money to connect to the internet? Where did you get the money to eat yesterday?

Ya because they earned all that cash working minimum wage jobs. Grow up ffs.
Ya? Are you a foreigner and if so, can we pry into every aspect of your life because, basically, you're a foreigner?

Marvelous thread this. If you have an IQ below 15.

Explain how 30-40,000 people, 39% of whom are unemployed, can afford to send home(the place they claim to have fled) $500,000,000.00 per annum.

This is a great topic and fair dues to you for being brave enough to put it up. If I remember correctly a recent survey showed that the most discriminated against when it came to employment was the Black African community. It does raise the question where is the money coming from? But my main concern is what will the "sent home" money be used for? I reckon a lot of it will be ploughed back into the lucrative human trafficking/sex industry so that the businesss here can expand to earn even more loot. These black lads are smart so they will allow a lot of their earnings to be visible as legitimate income.
