Pakistani court bans Valentine's day - CNN.com

Just when you think the madness could not get worse the High Court in Islamabad has issued a nationwide ban on all physical and electronic displays of anything connected to Valentine's Day. In addition..............

The order prohibits the display of adverts on electronic and print media that reference Valentine's Day,
Islamists think this is a great victory for their austere world view but yet again it shows their weakness. A religious belief that requires court orders to enforce a ban on something as harmless as Valentine's Day is in serious trouble.

what if they are right?
Well, I came across a bunch of young wans out on Saturday night, Christ, the state of them
I think I'd regard my generation - thirty-somethings - as possibly being the most empowered, the younger wans now are so imprisoned by a social media culture and sexualisation. Thirteen year olds feeling they need extensive waxing and such.

Can we ban muslims celebrating ramadan here. This should be a two way street.

I have to say I find myself in agreement with the Pakistani's on this one..

I'd vote for the politician who would ban this commercialised crap..

I think there is great merit to pointing out to people that we too have our traditions and they too merit respect.

In respect of the hijab/niqab/burqa debate, what has been proper to Islamic traditions in the Gulf should probably best stay there. A woman doesn't need to cover her hair to be modestly dressed IMO. This arose out of tribal circumstances in the Saudi peninsula.

Ah now, it's a fair bit more mental than that, SR. They're definitely on the same spectrum, though.

If you need someone to parrot the right on pc view The SR is always there. No action by Islamofascists too extreme to introduce a bit of whataboutery.

The same spectrum, just not in the same area.
