Very hard to see Abbas as someone who can make peace given this:

Abbas says Jews’ behavior, not anti-Semitism, caused the Holocaust
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday said that the Holocaust was not caused by anti-Semitism, but by the “social behavior” of the Jews, including money-lending.
...
The Palestinian leader has a long history of Holocaust denial. His 1982 doctoral dissertation was titled “The Other Side: the Secret Relationship Between Nazism and Zionism,” and he has in the past been accused of denying the scope of the Holocaust. The dissertation reportedly claimed that the six million figure of Holocaust victims was hugely exaggerated and that Zionist leaders cooperated with the Nazis.
Given that Hamas are even more extreme than him, it seems unlikely that anyone can moderate him

I think the 1933 declaration of war played a part more than those reasons.

I want to know ho paid for his massive palace, whilst the subjects of his increasingly Sharia orientd statelet continue to live on the bread line ??

Did he get a loan ?

Or did he merely reallocate public funding for his massive ego project ?

It is a fact that the Zionist leaders concluded the Haavara Agreement with Nazi Germany to facilitate Jewish emigration before WW2. However the idea that the Jews caused the Holocaust is a disgraceful thing to say if that's what he meant. But there is a legitimate point to be made that for centuries, the Catholic Church banned Christians from "usury", which had the effect of making moneylending with interest a largely Jewish industry (though in France the Protestants like Jacques Necker were also heavily involved in the 18th century). It seems to be perfectly reasonable to argue that such financial pressure contributed to support for Zionism on political circles and continues to do so.

When Ireland was occupied by the British we also distrusted the latter's motives (with good reason as the broken Treaty of Limerick of 1691 showed). War does that to people - makes them paranoid.

Hmm, would Abbas wish that it happened for real and that Holocaust deniers were liars?

You would have to wonder at people. The people he represents are suffering, and instead of trying to build support among the international community he comes out with this guff. The Palestinian people really have been let down by their "leaders". It is almost as if they do not want a solution.

What peace negotiators don't realise is that there are four parties to this dispute not two.

Two parties who want war(the Hawks) and two parties(the Doves) who want peaceful co-existence. All four parties must be brought into alignment for any successful agreement. The war parties on both sides will sabotage any peace process that does not have their approval.

Precisely. And Abbas is just following the old line of this "leadership".

Abu Mazen literally has a degree in Holocaust denial. And he's the moderate one.

Who are you talking about?

I'm wading through here trying to work out who you mean.

Precisely, it is weirdly irrelevant to the current suffering

All he is doing is fostering a feral tribal divisiveness

What suffering ? The PA rule the majority of the West Bank,. Any suffering is down largely to their incompetence and corruption.

Which is the worrying bit. There is a lot of goodwill internationally towards the people of Palestine, but when their leaders, especially a so called moderate one, comes out with stuff like this it really makes it difficult. If you are an Israeli it makes it very difficult to believe that the leadership wants a peaceful solution.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday said that the Holocaust
was not caused by anti-Semitism, but by the “social behavior” of the Jews, including money-lending.

In a long and rambling at speech in Ramallah at a rare session of the Palestinian
National Council, Abbas touched on a number of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories
during what he called a “history lesson,” as he sought to prove the 3,000 year-old
Jewish connection to the Land of Israel is false.

It's shameful that European leaders, Irish Lefties and American liberals admire this rabidly anti-Semitic conspiracy loon as a "moderate" peacemaker.:|

Cheeky given that Yassar Arafat's uncle, Amin al-Husseini, collaborated with Nazi leadership to have Jews exterminated and stop them from emigrating to what is now Israel. Does he know anything about the history of his people?
