The center-right party that is primarily responsible for the economic collapse of Iceland is tipped to regain political supremacy in todays elections. This spells a bad omen to the FG/LP government, and reminds us all that FF needs to be fought off at all costs and at all times. Demonstrations today at the RDS anyone?

Wait just one cotton pickin minute,

Would that be the party that REFUSED to bail out the banks?

All FF comparisons are null and void,

Unemployment rate is about 5% in Iceland, people are happy there so are more forgiving.

Whats our excuse? Irish people will vote for FF in large numbers even though the unemployment is over 14% after 4 years of "crisis". The FF ard-sess today and the large numbers of Irish people at it show that competence isn't a requirement for a party to be successful in Ireland, FFs success is that it operates as a combination of a civil war cult and as a criminal "favours" network.

Slight correction Tele. Last time I checked it was closer to 7% - with Ireland's running at around 23% according to the IMF.

Who is, really?

Having a job is psychologically very important, particularly for men. People all being in the same boat will help people cope with the real austerity in Iceland.

If we followed Icelands model dozens if not hundreds of suicides and then our high levels of emigration would have been avoided. The 25% odd of the voters who endorse FF are culpable for those deaths share responsibility with ahern/cowan and lenny.

SF would never agree to enter gov with FFailure.
People would have said the same about SF going into government with DUP and that happened in 2007.

Interesting new batsh!t angle there.

In the pantomime world, there is an arch-villain who is responsible for all the evil things that befall the good people, and a great many posters here live in that pantomime world.

In the real world, it's all a great deal more complicated and messy. The explanation for FF's partial recovery lies in a couple of things - as time passes, a cooler appraisal of what has happened over the last few years has promoted a more intelligent, non-pantomime take on things; that coupled with the realisation that FG/Lab are not only not-very-good but are indistinguishable
from FF renders much of the Anti-FF hysteria redundant.

If people who formerly voted FF see no alternative (and they now know that FG/Lab are not an alternative) or see only unacceptable alternatives (SF/ULA/Indeps) then a driftback of these voters is likely.

Partisan supporters of FG & Lab can jump up and down and attack the voters (the same voters who gave them a landslide last time out) but they should be looking inward - what did ye do with ye're landslide, only imitate FF to a "T".

How about a DUP/FF Coalition? It'd be a Sunday Indo hack's wet dream.
