I think it depends on whether it includes the bribe for the border guards inspecting the truck you and your entire family are in when you arrive at Schaffhausen.

Are you having a laugh?

So in other words you don't want people to leave the country as if their passport was out of date it would cost the effectively €2k to go on holidays (€1k for the passport and €1k for price of holiday including spending money) or over €2500 if they had to bring a child....Imagine people who were emmigrating, the might only have €1k leaving and you want to take it off them before they go if they had to renew their passport

To me this is madness

Probably just enough people would be stupid enough to pay it to cover the cost of the lawyers for the constitutional challenge.

Splendid idea. Got any more?

Why so cheap... in the 80's the FF's used to sell them for £50000.

I think we should have a two tier passport charges, one for those who have paid their taxes in this country (no matter where they come from) or live here, one for those who use it as some form of national emblem. The latter should be paying a lot more.

There might be something in that. If you are a tax-exile then your passport will cost you €10k. Would recoup some of the taxes they ought to have paid here.

If we were all forced to get a passport at those costs, about 3 billion. Otherwise, about a million. But the demand for British passports would go up, as would US passports, etc. Much cheaper.

Most likely would be that few if any would bother getting a passport.

This idea fits well into the daft bucket.
