Congratulations to our new Deputy General Secretary, Pat McParland, who will have responsibility for communications.

He's a very smart chap and comes from NI Water where he is Director of Corporate Affairs.

Communications? With Cowen as Taoiseach. Best of luck indeed.

Deputy General Secretary of what? You might be more precise in your OP's. Not everyone is familiar with the third most popular party in the State you know.

Interesting... given how they didn't like the candidates for director of communications

And along with Dorgan, the choice of someone from the corporate world shows a sharp focus on professionalism , rather than hackery

This is an interesting appointment. back in February Fianna Fail advertised for the role of Director of Communications (we discussed it at the time here), of which I understand a number of Fianna Fail faithful applied for. Merc (who handled the appointment) shortlisted a few, however the party decided not to interview any candidate (from what I understand) and decided to seek other candidates for the role.

Two months ago Brian Cowen told a meeting of the Fianna Fail parliamentary party that a "Senior Press Officer" would be appointed shortly (we discussed it then here). A week later Miriam Lord reported that a staffer from the Construction Industry Federation was offered the role but declined. There'd been nothing of it since.

But this appointment now appears to be much more senior than originally sought, which indicates the party may be taking a more substantial interest in it's communications "going forward" (as Cowen would say). It has taken six months for someone to be appointed.

Pic of Pat McParland below (for the benefit of political media folks who'll be getting to know him in no time I'm sure!) - profile of him from his outgoing employer is here.

What is important, is that the right person was appointed, it wasnt a time race.

For whom, you or us.

Because we have not had much joy from those chosen by you, to represent us.

Having said that I do not think you need worry about communication after the next election. 2 dozen phone calls will be about enough.
