Paul Murphy MEP has just ripped apart his Irish property tax form in the European Parliament in a response to the revelations in the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigation revealing tax dodging activities by multinational corporations in Ireland. It will be interesting to watch how Phil Hogan responds to this.

What action do you think can be taken? Is it illegal to tear up forms now?

The Twitpic I'd like to see is of the faces of other socialists in the chamber during Paul's performance.

We all complain about nothing being done in the European parliament, but could you imagine if every MEP decided to waste the continents time with their own domestic grandstanding? If you want to bitch about domestic policy, become a TD or senator. If you want to bitch about Europe's policys, become an MEP.

Just thinking the same thing.

Support for Property tax is a core policy of all socialist parties across Europe and therefore the other members of Murphy's party in Europe, so it would be interesting to know what they think of this.

Paul Murphy MEP is (unsurprisingly) acting the clown.

No action need be taken other than pointing out that the man is a clown.
I think that does a grave disservice to the honourable tradition of clowns. Murphy is acting the tosser.

As a neighbour living in an similar apartment in the same estate as Mr Murphy in Ballinteer. He will need to make a change on the valuation level ..... its too high on the revenue form.

This is the kind of thing I just can't stand the European Parliament for. We (all EU countries) directly elect people to the European Parliament,. and we can't exactly say they are our best and brightest.. and that goes for us all. To drive the point home... "brokep", one of the Pirate Bay original founders.. is running for MEP in Finland.

There are always a bunch of empty, silly gestures at the European Parliament. We all remember the stupid green "respect the Irish vote" tops a bunch of them wore after Lisbon 1, and then after the European Parliament voted against ACTA they had those silly masks and holding up signs saying "Hello Democracy, Goodbye ACTA." I couldn't help but think how many of them wore the "respect the irish vote" clothing after Lisbon, and then used powers given to the Parliament by Lisbon to vote down ACTA.

Basically, I'm not sure if half of them realize they are in Parliament, and actually think they are in college... because they more resemble college students to me.

EDIT: Just remembered the anonymous masks were worn by members of the Polish parliament after the vote, not the MEPs, but they did hold up the signs.

Of course Murphy's route to becoming an MEP was easier than most.

I think you misunderstand the meaning of Irish socialism, which is to basically hurl from the ditch and oppose everything.
