www.peopleforeconomicjustice.com took a quarter page advert out in today's Sindo Business section.

Asking people if they were aware of corruption within the banking/finance sector, their advert suggests contacting the above website or by contacting 089 4759387
Didn't notice that till now. The large photo of Selma Hayek directly above that advert was very distracting!

Economic justice indeed. This reminds me of what I heard that outspoken French MEP Daniel Cohn-Bendit talking about on France 24 last night. This guy who was a student leader in the May 1968 protests in France and is soon to retire was trying to explain why we need more European integration and thus in my eyes less democracy. How else can you describe power being removed from national parliaments and centralised far away in Brussels but an assault on democracy. This guy who fought for the rights of workers in France said that a more integrated Europe is necessary because the financial markets have stolen sovereignty. He also said that if we are to compete in this new "globalised" (capitalist dream of a race to the bottom) world with the large BRIC countries we need to pool our sovereignty and speak with one voice. It just doesn't wash with me.

Why can't we take the power to "steal sovereignty" away from financial markets. Why can't they be regulated properly so they are of use to the real economy instead of a f**king leech on society. Seperate them from the rest of us like the lepers that they are. It's not good enough to say we have no choice, we are powerless, there is no alternative. There f**king is an alternative. Put these banksters in their place, take the power off them, do what politicians are supposed to do - legislate. Why should we lose our rights because politicians are too corrupt, power hungry and frankly lazy or stupid to do their job.

No Mr. Cohn-Bendit, it's not good enough. You sold your soul. Just because you are from the big countries in Europe, who hold all the power, you're blinded to the serious voiceless of the smaller countries in Europe who's societies are being hollowed out by the financial markets, all sanctioned by your beloved E.U. You're lying to yourself and you know it. Europe has become a nightmare and it's certainly not the Socialist utopia that you say you believe in. But you don't really believe in that anymore do you? You believe in power and empire now and screw the little guy.

Sorry gerhard dengler I went off on a bit of a tangent there but the words economic justice are so emotive right now. Let's hope people respond to the ad but I'm sceptical as financial types, who could be the real whistleblowers, tend to only care about making as much money as they can and nothing else.

Economic justice in Ireland would be McCreevey, Ahern, Cowen, Fingleton and Fitzpatrick being sent to the gallows

While I have a lot of sympathy with those who have found themselves in negative equity, this chap seems a bit of the wall.

Example:
This is done because of the people’s inability to pay back the debts they owe. The inability to do so, of course stems directly from the bank bailout that sank the country into a deep recession.
I'd be delighted if someone could explain the logic of this statement to me.

To lawfully challenge all financial debt.
All? What does he mean all?

Last but not least, the most worrying sign, to my mind, is if you check out the word cloud at the end of the page, the single biggest words are Ben Gilroy. Dunno who Ben Gilroy is, but if the most common thing that comes up on the People for Economic Justice website is Ben Gilroy, then it would appear that they spend more time talking about Ben Gilroy than they do talking about economic justice..

Basically he is a snake oil merchant who preys on desperation of people about to be evicted, and convinces them that the constitution doesn't allow repossessions of homes.

He has yet to win a single case, and generally all he does is spin a pile of flat-earth Freeman bolloxology on cameras. The end result is he gets media attention for himself and the people he "helped" are left in a far worse position than they started.

To be honest you could have just reduced that post to the word Freeman and I would have understood :D
