PEOPLE POWER....THE ONLY WAY

for me the upcomming elections are irrelevent
as our government is powerless now thanks to IMF SCUM
the only way to shape our own destiny is people power / street power
the unions arn't gonna do it
labour wont do it

TIME IS NOW FOR MASS CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE

the private sector, public sector, unemployed, oaps, students, trade unionists, we're all in this together
time to stop the petty bickering (DIVIDE N RULE)

i agree completely however the irish people never cease to amaze me when it comes to putting up with this ************************.we have been openly lied to by these ff idiots for years and the last few weeks shows how arrogant these clowns are. However were a nation that stood by for decades as the church told us what to do while they abused our children and they still run our schools.as a nation we do tolerate some ************************e..hopefully this will be the final straw and well grow some backbone and stand up for ourselves like our european neighbours.

Is there ever a time that an anarchist isn't in favour of breaking stuff and throwing objects at people and glass things?
thanks for your great contribution there
when we're sleeping...petunia

on a serious note.... civil disobediance takes many forms...
non payment of taxes
protest marches
strikes
it can be peaceful also
do you not agree with this?

I would love it if EVERYONE just stopped paying their mortgages until they are reduced to realistic levels.
Nice sentiment. However, you seem to be forgetting that the single biggest shareholder in the banking sector is the Irish state. So ultimately, witholding morgage payment will simply result in greater losses for the banks, and greater liabilities for the Irish citizen.

Mass civil disobedience has nothing to do with anarchy. It is a peaceful, although perhaps not passive, means of reacting to a situation where the powers that be refuse to listen to what the people are telling them.

The time for passivism has expired. The Irish people have been frighteningly slow to react to developments in recent years and as a result, the government has already inflicted irreversible damage on our country and now the only way for the Irish people to react in an kind of effective manner is mass civil disobedience.

This includes sit-ins, occupation of government offices, marches, protests, etc. - all acceptable and peaceful means of protest. This doesnt mean that there'll be riots, vandalism, criminal damage and a deterioration in our social fabric.

Although, with the brutal and totally disproportionate reaction of the Gardai to recent peaceful protests I do fear that that could provoke the sleeping giant that is the Irish people and the result of that may be unpredictable. This is unfortunate but is it worse to idly sitting by while we allow our present government to compromise our sovereignty?

Agree with the OP. Until the dictatorship is removed and we refuse to the IMF bailout.

1. Withdraw your savings
2. Default on debt
3. Refuse to pay taxes
4. Trade only in the black economy
5. Refuse to except any form or representative of the State. Shun them. Ignore them.
6. Hit the Streets banging them with dustbin lids and pots and pans.

This isn't Northern Ireland during the troubles, this isn't South Africa under apartheid, nor is it pre-1960s US or the USSR. This is a fully democratic state, and we voted for the policies pursued over 10/11 of the last 13 years which lead to this mess.

Either way, there's an election within the next couple of months, so we can all make the changes we want to how the place is governed then.

Civil rights marches had a common purpose. One part of the population were being clearly discriminated against. This is about money and where it's being spent or not.

I am also guessing that you do not have a mortgage that you are continuing to pay. Moral hazard applies to borrowers as well. Support sure, renegotiation definitely, some level of debt forgiveness perhaps. If we can have them all publicly admit their stupidity I'd think about it. They give you pages of conditions before you sign off an on any borrowing. No-one ever reads it.

The trouble with a list like this is that being against everything encourages others who are against things you support joining in and the message ends up drowned in a cacophony of "rights".

I suggest people do whatever they can to ensure that the upcoming election is used as the basis for changing the country. Not that we get 'FF out' - that is going to be a case of kicking down an open door, but that FF are driven out of so many constituencies that they never lead a government again. Hand in hand with that, we need to get rid of the clientist TD's from other parties and replace them with people with politicians that will server the country. Oh while we're at it, no point in taking a dump on the kitchen floor when cleaning the house, so keep Gerry Adams out of the Dáil.

None of that requires marches, stone throwing, picking fights with the guards (and claiming to live in a police state while living country where law enforcement is ridiculously weak). They just serve as a distraction to most, and justification for personality problems for some.

Do that and this country will have the power to realise its potential as a functioning modern state.

But our rock throwing anarchist friend on the otherhand thinks "for me the upcomming elections are irrelevent "

They've all (bar Chris Andrews maybe) been voted in my the people of this country for the last 20 years plus. Hardly much point in giving out about them now.

This is a neofeudal dictatorship. We did not vote for NAMA, we did not vote for the larceny of the people to fund bondholders, we did not vote for the IMF.

This situation is much worse than the above, we are on the verge of the Road to Serfdom.

Have been drawing savings out in cash lumps since last week, bank unable to give me more than 5k per day... got 7.5k on Friday..... putting it in a safe at home, no way I trust ANY bank anymore. Massive run on savings happening here, banks completely fúcked, Ireland completely fúcked.
