Is there even an attempt to keep the Budget confidential anymore? They just spin every detail to see what reaction they get, and back off it doesn't go down well. And at the same time they waffle about "We're unpopular because we're making the hard decisions".

News for the Brians brain trust: You're unpopular because you're incompetent.

Why would the greens put up the cost of diesel considering it is not carbon omitting.
Don't be so naive in thinking that they have much input into this budget.
Or has a FF minister never put up the price of petrol??
Like excise it is one of the easiet ways for a Minister of Finance to increase his revenues.

Ah, yes! The age old problem, how to make a low cost economy?

Oh, yes! Stick the costs UP.

Pah!

It's standard FF practice to blame everyone else for bad things, and take all the credit for good things.

I mean look at the FF supporter on the Frontline last night, who was blaming FG for cutting nurses wages..

They'll have to scrap the TV licence and remove standing charges from utility bills to even up the costs to the consumer.

Once they are out, I'm betting the next government will undo most of what they put in place.

If they plan on deflating the economy (i.e. lowering minimum wage, etc.) they will have to match it with cuts to many things the greens put there sure.

Every cost increased today will have to be matched by a reduction in a sector that dosen't affect the public finances directly.
Scrapping of TV licence only effects RTE no loss to central government.
Scrapping standing charges on utilities will have no effect on governments coffers.
Regulating doctors and dentists fees down 40% will have no effect on central government.
Putting set charges on solicitors and accountants so that they can no longer gouge the public has no cost to the government.
If they want more of the publics money they must act to lower the other costs

Stop the FF spin. The country is bankrupt. It is not as if the FF Minister for Finance is not looking to bring in increased revenue. I can remember a budget where petrol was increased in price by an FF Minister and we were guaranteed that the money raised would be ploughed into minor roads. Now of course it ended up as part of general taxation. Who remembers the promise now? FF has a long history of raising petrol prices in budgets. They dont need any help from the Greens

Sean O'Rourke seems to think a 4 cent rise in petrol prices is not too bad. He may be well off. Most people are not. Rises in fuel prices have a knock on effect on businesses and the cost of goods in the shops. Rises in fuel prices cost jobs.
Sean O'Rourke should try running a business and see the effects of fuel costs.

The staff in RTE live in a very cosseted world that is well removed from what the rest of us experience.
