Poland's president concedes defeat as he falls behind in election exit poll | World news | The Guardian

Poland has take a turn to the right.

"If the results are borne out, Poland will replace its conservative head of state with the more rightwing and previously little-known Law and Justice party candidate."

Law and Justice - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some interesting comments an policies:

"The affirmation of homosexuality will lead to the downfall of civilization. We can't agree to it"

On foreign policy, PiS is Atlanticist and less supportive of European integration than Civic Platform.[25] The party is soft eurosceptic,[8][9] and opposes a federal Europe. In its campaigns, it emphasises that the European Union should '[serve] Poland and not the other way around'.[27] It is a member of the anti-federalist Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists, having previously been a part of the Alliance for Europe of the Nations and, before that, the European People's Party.[18][28]

No wonder so many younger Poles have left. 71% of Poles regard homosexuality as something society should not accept. The authority of the Church hasn't undergone as much damage as in Ireland so the people live in the midst of bigoted superstition just as Ireland used to.

Thankfully for now, the presidency is mostly ceremonial. He can veto laws and controls the army but otherwise won't be able to resume the former PiS govts programme of hounding gays out of public life.

They come here to break strikes and forget the oppression. We must reach out to them. Bless their little hearts....

Iron curtain legacy.

JP2 legacy.

Not anywhere like as much RCC abuse perpetrated in Poland (that we know of anyway) as was perpetrated in Ireland...

I'm not particularly surprised that Poland is lurching to the right tbh.

A bit like Ireland in the early 80's the brains have left leaving the dreggs to be divided between which ever party can fill a pot hole first.

Aren't the PiS left wing on economic issues while been socially conservative?

Poland is also due to hold a Parliamentary election later on this year as well.

As a eurosceptic this is good news as it's another spanner in the works.

Good to see. Unlike the pussies in the West, these people will not surrender to Islamization.
