Just trying to gague what we have in our wallets.

As you may or may not know, all euro's are not the same.
Each country in the eurozone has it's own serial number designation.

Belgium Z
Germany X
Ireland T
Greece Y
Spain V
France U
Italy S
Cyprus G
Luxembourg ( 1 )
Malta F
Netherlands P
Austria N
Portugal M
Slovenia H
Slovakia E
Finland L

I was surprised to find that 3 out of 4 of the notes in my wallet are non irish euros.

On another thread several posters said that money they had taken out of Irish ATM's were mainly non irish.

Sure, there is a lot of cash going through the eurozone countries. But most cash transactions through member states would go through the banking system, and holidaymakers from germany etc, might tend to bring a bit of cash with them on holiday.

So there are reasons why this might be, and I admit to not really understanding how this works in practice, or whether things have changed in the past few years.

It might be instructive to see what is in our wallets in a broad brush stroke.

If there is mixing of the notes due to trade etc, there is no reason why people shouldn't have a range of notes.

In fact, I would be worried if most people had Irish notes. That would be a sign that they are trying to compartmentalise the Euros into the different countries.

Also, most of my money is in Rabo, and it is just a number on a computer.
