I actually thought he was really popular.

But beating Casey and his RTE buddies(Ni Riada,Casey,Duffy,Gallagher) was as straight forward as it gets.

If he wasn't popular, the other parties would've put up candidates against him. They didn't, which proves your initial statement correct.

The figures that leap out for me are Freeman paying €90k for campaign workers and Ni Riada net even paying a cent.
Not surprising. Ni Riada would have a base of "volunteers" in SF to do grunt work like postering and leaflet drops (nominally working for her in the voluntary capacity that members of most parties do that kind of work, though in SF's case often paid to have roles in the party which those in other parties do for free), while Freeman would have no such base and would have to hire people.

Oh I know the SF top brass can rely on their gulls volunteers but she might at least have bought them a pint or two.

How do you know she didn't, Baron von Blueshirt? 😂

Because she said in a formal legal return to SIPO that she spent nothing on campaign workers.
The blueshirts have to buy people bc no one believes in their lies and corruption, sf don't have to buy 'workers', they have enough friends to help them out 🙂

There wasn't an FG candidate in the presidential election. Ni Raida was the only party candidate.

But not enough to vote for them to spare them the humiliation of just about scraping a fourth place finish behind two amateurs.

The champagne socialist is popular for some unfathomable reason (presumably bc of the total support and promotion of the msm), and as the main fascist parties decided to support him he was a shoe in.

Perhaps the shinners will always be disappointed but as they used to say, the fascists have to be lucky all the time, we only have to be lucky once 🙂

You're a Holocaust denier.

That's pretty fascist.

Perhaps instead of relying on luck it would have been better to choose a more competent candidate, one who actually knew the constitutional powers and limitations of the office.

Nonsense, most of the goms who chase the Presidential gravy train are in it for the loot and care naught for constitutional this or that.

Ní Riada was an anti-establishment candidate (or as near as makes no differ), and the establishment don't take real opposition lying down.

If the anti-establishment candidate can only scrape 6% it seems 'The Establishment' in Ireland is 94% of the population.
