He is also demonstrating that he is a political fool (or completely lacks confidence in his own party) if he thinks the United Left Alliance will hold the balance of power.

A vote for labour is a vote for Fine Gael and capitalism.

You only have to look at the recent candidates selected to run for Labour. Not a left bone in their bodies. Some genius in Labour HQ must think people want FF/FG clones.

A FG/Lab coalition should be impossible, like a Conservative / Labour coalition in the UK. Instead Labour have become FG Lite.

In Germany, the destruction of the social welfare state was started by Gerhard Schröder and his socialdemocratic SPD with the help of the greens. Thats what you get for voting labour/socialdemocratic. Instead of progressing towards a democratic socialism the SPD introduced neoliberal policies that made them loose half of their members and voters. Same goes for that war criminal Anthony Blair and his british labour party.

There are no simple solutions to complex problems.

Why are ye lads so behind running at this, wait, let the first left wing lead government come even if it's a very watered down, the interest payments will result in a more working class people copping on to the fact that the left is their only friend in politics, there will be a hard left government but the first step is gilmore.

Labour is nothing other than a pro-austerity pro-big business party. It's policies will be a disaster for working class people. Why should the left give Gilmore a free hand to do that?

Ermmm, how do you figure that one, since neither they nor FG have been in power for the last 13 years ?

They did nothing different when they were - Richie Ruin and the Elder Lemon in the 70's and 80's and the tax amnesty in the 90's.

Certainly the 70s and 80s were a different time (and Labour Party). Re the early Tax amnesty, it's easy to look back in hindsight now, but none of the big scandals were really unearthed at the time yet we all suspected it was going on. I would point out that Lab and FG created the McCracken tribunal which unearthed the whole Ben Dunne scandal. As regards where we are now, there isn't a whole lot of room to manoeuver for FG and Lab.

If things are bad for the powerful its usually the socialdemocrats that are allowed to gain power by the establishment. With the socialdemocrats in power the pressure from the streets will be reduced and the unions being an ally of labour are made to hold still.

During the german revolution in 1918 it was the socialdemocrats that put down the workers revolt with the help of the right-wing Reichswehr and gave the order to murder Rosa Luxemburg.

Socialdemocrats have been traitors throughout history. I hate them with a passion.

Some commentators say the "left" won Donegal. When did SF become left. They are just a supra national corporate party, who also voted for bank guarantee ?
