Michael Soden has committed modern day heresay in his new book in arguing that Ireland should not only leave the EU, but join the United States. The Blackrock Clinic will be full of Irish Times stalwarts with heart palputations and breaking out in cold sweats.
Soden: Let's quit EU and join US - National News, Frontpage - Independent.ie

And further heresay in the paper arguing that we should leave the Euro.
Leaving the euro might well be our 'least bad' option - Business, Frontpage - Independent.ie

Now, how about a Lisbon 3 Referendum? :shock2:

Will we still have to work 5 1/2 days a week to pay for this clown's various sinecures?

Oooh, nasty.....playing the man rather than the ball......
Soden appears to have two parts of his brain that don't talk to each other. On the VB show a while back, he said he did not believe that single mothers should receive aid for their bad moral choices. This from a man fired from BoI for accessing porno sites on his work computer.

Now he is pretending that he had nothing to do with BoI's catastrophic decisions while he was chairman.

He left in 2005 IIRC and it was only after he left that BoI got into crazy lending. The only reason BoI is still solvent is that at least up to 2005 under his stewardship it did not get into speculative property lending and was well behind Anglo and AIB in that game when the bust occurred.

To address his point about joining the US, well the US would not want us. Post-Bush, the US has become much more nationalistic and inward looking. It only looks outside the US in terms of access to oil, access to cash from China, looking for terrorists and defending Israel. That is all. Ireland is considered a cutesy place to get drunk in for a week, but no more than that.

The comparisons with Norway and Switzerland don't stack up. Norway has a Trillion Dollar Sovereign Wealth Fund and vast oil reserves. Switzerland is a world leader in banking and pharmaceuticals. Ireland has a few factories built by foreign companies, and Twink.

Leave the EU yes but join the US? Bloody fool. Was 1916 in vain? It would be if we left one colonial master to join another one.

Another "magic" solution that will cure all our problems. We're like children hoping someone else will clean up our mess.

Perhaps we should do a Wayne Rooney and tell the EU we want to join the US in the hope they will come back to us with a better offer.

Why should we care what this sod has to say. Didn't he want us to work six days a week for the same pay a while ago.

Maybe we should just rejoin the UK.
well Dermot Ahern and the Dept of Justice, already comply with UK Immigration
instruction memos without any consideration for Irish Citizens and their family.
Upon questioning, Ahern will grunt... Its what is done in the UK

So we are almost in the UK again.

RIGHT ON MICHAEL - I'M WITH YOU ALL THE WAY

The only Irish people currently benefiting from the Eurozone are the corrupt bankers who have already borrowed over 100 BILLION from the ECB this year.
Money the Irish taxpayers will have to payback.

The only other people who are benefiting from the EU at present are the MEP politicians, each with huge staff (their relations), and the thousands of 'public servants' who have their snouts DEEP in that trough.
