Kazakhstan heavily restricts freedom of assembly, speech, and religion, and torture remains a serious problem. In 2014, authorities closed newspapers, jailed or fined dozens of people after peaceful but unsanctioned protests, and fined or detained worshipers for practicing religion outside state controls. Government critics, including opposition leader Vladimir Kozlov, remain in detention after unfair trials.

It is also one of Brtains Top Five trade partners with 85 bn stg tied up in oil and development deals.

HRH Prince Andrew who has a gig as a British trade envoy is now in the firing line over two dodgy deals.

(1) The sale of his private residence Sunninghill to a Kazakh oligarch for 3 million quid above the market rate, which he claim his personal office was not involved in. Emails now indicate they were. The oligarch never moved in and Southyork is now sitting there rotting.

The truth about Andrew's £15m house sale: As furore grows over Prince's links to corrupt Kazakh regime, we expose new details surrounding the mysterious sale of Prince's marital home to oligarch | Daily Mail Online

(2) Commissions Randy Andy is alleged to have accepted to broker private deals in Kazahstan - not part of his role.

'Prince Andrew brokered £385m deal with Kazakh regime while working as British trade envoy'

Two questions.

(a) Just how greedy are the Royals?

(b) Is it possble this is coming out now because Andy is in a worse fix and this is a handy way to get him to bow out?

This is the same UK Government which is supplying arms to the Saudis, the biggest sponsors of State terror against which they are supposedly fighting, while the Saudis are terror bombing Yemeni civilians in what the UN has declared is a war crime.

New dogs, same old tricks.

People always say it is a disgrace that the Saudis are on the UN Council of Human Rights.

Funny how people overlook the fact that when supposed "democracies" such as the UK and the US actively support them, they're essentially putting them there.

Despicable.

He needs to be put under discreet house arrest in some vacant and remote stately home for a decade or two. Along similar lines, perhaps King of Canada might suit?

And he should have married saucy commoner Koo Stark, a far better woman than Fergie as it turned out. She just might have kept him on the straight and narrow.

I share this utter indifference. As a Republican it interests me precisely zero and am surprised by the level of Royalism on display here.

Amazing how much knowledge some have of a minor and obscure family. Of course a few are these people's subjects so we can understand that I suppose. Personally, I don't discuss such people as it would be below me.

They're not just empty celebs, though. Andy's shenanigans are problematic for the British state.
